In this exciting Product Development Engineering Technician role, you will be part of the dedicated, experienced, and high-performing team at the Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center, MN. At this facility, we design, develop, and manufacture components used in Medtronic medical devices.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Start up and operate equipment independently according to approved parameters to support R&D builds

  • Safe handling of chemicals and equipment operation in accordance with EHS policies

  • Adjust tooling and processing parameters as required to meet experimental targets and criteria according to R&D build plans

  • Actively monitor Observe machine operation to detect identify and address defects or machine malfunction

  • Perform and develop product testing according to approved methods and standards

  • Complete Author and submit all required documentation, or electronic data entry

  • Provide feedback on tooling, machine performance, product testing, and issues to engineers, supervisors, and management

  • Provides technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes and products

  • Prepares documentation on build reports, study plans, and other QMS (Quality Management System) required documents to support project work using Microsoft Office Suite of products (Excel, pptPowerpoint, Word)

  • Monitors instruments and equipment and collects operating data, including calibration, inspection, testing and repair activities, to assist in making on-line adjustments to instruments, equipment, or products.

  • Analyzes and resolves malfunctions and deviations of instruments and control systems to identify and resolve problems.

  • Conducts, analyses and prepares reports using metrics from salvage tracking, trending, reporting and root-cause analyses.

  • Maintains process designs to optimize process, equipment and facility use while conforming to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Ability to work with limited supervision, including problem solving, providing solutions to issues, and implementing improvements

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior operating experience of coating, mixing, web handling, or other small scale chemical manufacturing equipment

  • Prior knowledge or experience in the medical device industry

  • Prior experience in R&D, pilot scale operations, or manufacturing environments

  • Prior experience Experienced designing using CAD software or a willingness to learn it

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$57,600.00 - $86,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Operations Incentive Plan (OIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
