Job Description:

Urogynecology Nurse


Position Summary: provides direct patient care in an outpatient setting, specializing in both urology and gynecology conditions, including taking patient histories, assisting with procedures like urodynamics, cystoscopies, colposcopies, LEEP, EMB, etc., educating patient on their conditions and treatment options, and coordinating care with physicians and other healthcare providers within the practice. 



  • Provides clinical advice by phone/electronic correspondence based on clinical judgements and/or triage protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice. Consults with provider as necessary.

  • Provides patient specific education including but not limited to preventative care, chronic disease management, acute diagnosis, medications and other areas pertinent to patient outcomes.

  • Prepares patients for visit by using appropriate rooming standards tool.

  •  Administers injections and medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with department protocol, regulatory requirements and standards of practice. 

  • Prepares and assists providers with various procedures, minor surgeries and other exams as designated by the provider.

  • Performs Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to urine, Hgb A1c, pap smears, flu, etc.

  • Collects blood or other laboratory specimens and prepares them for further testing.

  • Authorizes prescription refills as instructed by provider.

  • Assists with test tracking and monitoring and monitoring overdue results.

  • Assures exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit. Maintains and cleans medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.

  • Assists provider and patient in reviewing and revising plan of care and assesses patient progress. Follows up with patient between visits as necessary.

  • Performs care coordination activities among specialists and transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.

  • Assists in coordination of referrals, education and community resources.

  • Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.

  • Participates in daily huddles

  • Serves as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence at all times when interacting with patients, visitors and colleagues. Communicates with all patients, visitors and colleagues in a professional manner while keeping customer service a top priority. 

Required Skills:



  • Proficient nursing skills applicable to this position.

  • Must be proficient in typing.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Must be able to work successfully with a diverse group of faculty, other staff, and patients.

  • Must be able to follow directions and work as part of a team. 

  • Must be able to follow patient safety and confidentiality (HIPAA) guidelines.


Required Education:



  • HS/GED; graduate of an approved Practical Nurse training program; or a recent graduate or a student nurse who will be graduating within 4-6 weeks


Required Licensure:



  • Must have a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the State of Oklahoma; or in the case of a recent or upcoming graduate, be eligible to obtain a license within 30 days of job interview.


Physical Requirements: 



  • Outpatient medical environment and exposure dependent upon assignment. The  essential functions of this position will involve mobility (walking; being able to stand for long periods of time during patient exams/procedures, etc.). Dependent upon assignment, must be able to lift up to 50 lbs in the function of patient positioning and assistance.
