Position Overview:
This position leads, directs and manages the efficient and effective development of Compeer's investments in Rural Business Investment Company (RBIC), Limited Partnership and General Partnership relationships; provides creative, valuable solutions to RBIC opportunities and problems; and provides fund management leadership across Farm Credit System Investment Committees. Manages the entire RBIC fund portfolio of $100+ million and provides System leadership related to the portfolio of over $1.1 billion. Attends annual meetings of RBIC's across the U.S., maintains strong relations with LP's and GP's. The incumbent provides System leadership in development and negotiations of term sheets with General Partners for future fund relationships alongside Farm Credit Limited Partners.


Essential Functions:


  • Provides creative, valuable solutions to the partnerships established under the USDA's Rural Business Investment Program to which Compeer commits capital or intends to commit capital.

  • Plans, organizes, communicates, and implements negotiation strategies and activities to achieve business goals and objectives to team members and executive management. Leads marketing efforts in the Rural Business Investment Program.

  • Leads legislative efforts collaboratively with the legislative officers and lobbying groups, provides general oversight to team members and fund managers engaged in investment advisory committees in order to ensure a fully integrated team approach to meeting return objectives, conflicts of interest or potential conflicts of interest.

  • Develops a network of both external and internal relationships which enhances Compeer's image as well as create avenues for learning and professional development.

  • Serves as a primary contact with external attorneys; other Farm Credit system associations and potential investors including banks, high net worth individuals, family offices, and other wealth management firms; fund managers, economic development officials, and investment bankers.

  • Engages in development and implementation of strategies, Farm Credit System leadership on the Farm Credit workgroup that negotiates terms and partnership agreements as well as leading Farm Credit System partners in fund raising for selected managers.

  • Works collaboratively with other Farm Credit System leaders to prioritize acceptable partnership terms with managers.

  • Maintains regular contact with congressional and senate offices on enhancements to RBIP. The position will take approval requests for RBIC investments to Executive Leadership Team and make recommendations for approval.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, agribusiness or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • 5+ years of experience in the areas of equity/investment fund management, commercial lending, credit analysis or related field.

  • Advanced knowledge of federal RBIP law, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.

  • Advanced knowledge in the history, statutes, and regulations of the Rural Business Investment Program.

  • Strategic and innovative.

  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and across Farm Credit equity investment peer relationships.

  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, negotiating, decision making and organizational skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) programs.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
