Description: The substation supervisor provides the daily technical and supervision support to real-time substation and network operations. Responsibilities include the oversight, field coordination, design verification, scheduling, construction, startup and commissioning of substation extreme high voltage and high voltage power equipment, including electrical instrumentation, control and/or energy management system, scada systems as well as underground network facilities. Related generating plant facilities include the construction and commissioning of instrumentation and computerized protective relay control systems. Provides active leadership and technical support to fulfill the objectives and goals of MidAmerican Energy Company Construction Services Company.
Direct Reports Guides and directs four to twelve multiple union disciplines in the operation, maintenance and construction of substation facilities, in the maintenance and construction of generating plant instrumentation and protective relay and control systems and in resolving complex engineering and operational issues.
Responsibilities: Plans, coordinates and directs the daily operation, maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substation and underground facilities, including communication interface equipment; the installation and commissioning of generating plant instrumentation and computerized relay protection control systems and installation, commissioning and maintenance of complex distribution control systems. Conducts safety and technical training of union personnel. Develops, implements, updates and effectively communicates safety programs, work practices and test procedures. (50%)
Evaluates and coordinates substation maintenance and construction activities, evaluates system security in completing current day and future planning requirements and assists in development of operating guides and procedures for normal and abnormal conditions. Monitors substation equipment performance, investigates abnormal operating conditions and implements timely corrective action solutions to resolve complex problems. Keeps informed of industry issues/technical trends and recommends and implements changes to benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (30%)
Proposes and gains acceptance of equipment modifications and plant improvements as required. Maintains compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and associated permit, including all applicable environmental, health and occupational safety and health administration safety regulations. (10%)
Designs and implements, in accordance with good engineering practices and adherence to standards, high voltage equipment, communication, Scada, instrumentation, control and relay protective systems. (5%)
Provides sound engineering estimates for MidAmerican Energy Company Construction Services Company, submitting cost effective proposals for outside MidAmerican Energy Company work and if successful in the quotation process, effectively manages the necessary coordination, construction and personnel tasks to finalize successful implementation of the project under projected costs. (5%)
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering, finance or computer science discipline from an accredited institution or eight to ten years of progressive utility experience in the technical electrical fields of the electric power industry.
Six years of related experience, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
