This is a leadership role and you will be responsible for leading and managing the environmental, health, and safety processes and systems at OBE’s Terrell Metal Processing manufacturing complex to build a strong safety culture, and to ensure compliance assurance with all applicable environmental requirements. 


Here’s What You’ll Get To Do



  • Develop and implement actions to facilitate a strong safety culture through skilled support and employee engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent OSHA, EPA and OBE requirements, programs and regulations

  • Provide guidance and support to facility leadership on safety, health and environmental aspects of operations.

  • Coach and guide facility operational leaders and safety representatives on the effective implementation of safety initiatives, and provide practical solutions that help them achieve safety excellence.

  • Provide input and expertise on strategic safety processes, tools, and techniques to enhance overall safety performance.

  • Develop and deliver training programs related to machine safeguarding, risk assessment processes, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, hazardous energy control, and injury case management.

  • Collaborate with facility management to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

  • Build engaged and effective teams and sub-teams (e.g., ergonomics, hazard communication, incident management, environmental and sustainability, etc.) and ensure adequate guidance, resources, and autonomy are provided to the teams to achieve their goals.

  • Coach site leadership to be safety champions and live safety as a value integrated into the way the site operates.

  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert (SME) on environmental aspects in a highly regulated industrial manufacturing facility, with deep technical and operational knowledge in CAA, CWA, RCRA, EPCRA, and TCEQ requirements.

  • Research and implement new environmental and safety solutions (e.g., information technology, operating technologies, instrumentation, monitoring systems, etc.) to keep the Terrell EHS systems current, adaptive, and effective.

  • Ensure all new hire and annual safety training is engaging, tailored to the specific audience, effective, completed and documented in the training system.

  • Work closely with impacted employees, the local HR Representative, the Corporate EHS team, workers comp insurers and administrators, and other relevant stakeholders to effectively manage all workers compensation claims.


 


Here’s What We’re Looking For



  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, environment or related field or relevant work experience equivalent to a degree

  • 15+ years safety experience in a high-hazard industrial manufacturing environment (e.g., steel, petrochemical, pulp & paper, material processing or similar industries).

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) a strong plus.

  • Strong preference to candidates that have hands-on experience with the OSHA PSM Standard (29 CFR 119).

  • Demonstrable experience with industrial hygiene, hazardous chemical management, and hazardous location classifications (NFPA 70, 29 CFR 1910.307) preferable.

  • Ability to interpret governmental safety and environmental regulations (i.e., OSHA, EPA), and provide practical application of applicable regulations to facility personnel.

  • Adeptness in relevant subject matter expertise, emotional intelligence, servant leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to successfully build trust, credibility, and effective working relationships with all key stakeholders. As a key member of the facility lead team, coach and mentor the EHS team and site personnel in relevant areas, building their skills to achieve a culture of EHS excellence.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently prioritizing work to achieve deliverables.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
