Summary
The Civil Construction Estimator is responsible for estimating projects, which includes conceptual/schematic estimating, negotiating and competitive bid estimates, interfacing with project managers and all support teams, as well as client relations to achieve precise and accurate estimates.
This is a safety-sensitive position.
Key Responsibilities
Safety First – Put safety first and production second. Always.
Prepares commercial estimates per bid procedure including quantity take-off of self-perform and subcontract items.
Prepares subcontractor trade packages & scopes of work.
Reviews all plans, specifications, and client requirements.
Prepares bid proposals, including cost breakdown, clarifications, scope, and exclusions.
Processes and distributes all R.F.P.s and addenda during pricing.
Prepares subcontract takeoffs for various trades.
Provides value engineering ideas, pricing, and documentation.
Prepares subcontractor comparison sheets for evaluation.
Prepares PM with bid notes.
Prepares call list and follow-up for coverage.
Supports Project Manager and Construction Manager throughout the project as needed.
Maintains a positive client/subcontractor relationship.
Must continue to work towards training and certifications for work-related jobs.
Ensure the highest level of safety and quality control requirements are upheld.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to routinely bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift 50lbs or more, lift in awkward positions, stand, and twist for extended periods.
Must be willing to travel out of market/state to construction sites during all phases of a project.
Must be willing to work extended hours as required by project schedules or urgent circumstances.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes DOT physical, background check, and drug/alcohol testing and participate in the random testing program.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive company vehicles. A commercial driver's license (CDL) is a plus.

Technical Skills:

Must be able to read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specifications, mounting specs, testing procedures, etc.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and have advanced computer skills.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.
Workdays and hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some overtime requirements.
Travel
Some travel is required for this position. Usually between 10-30% or as needed on projects.
Education and Experience
Required:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Associated degree program or 1-2 years spent estimating in general construction.
Desired:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a construction-related discipline.
