The hourly rate for this position at Scotts/Hawthorne will generally fall between $29.75 - 34.00 per hour and is paid weekly. Scotts/Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.


We are looking for a Production Lead to join our Scotts Miracle Gro team in Fort Madison, IA.



What you'll do in this role:



  • Be a part of a duo of team leads responsible for assisting the production supervisor in directing a workforce of approximately 80 full time and contract associates performing tasks associated with operating liquid filling packaging equipment and manual applications.


  • Influence positive change and associate lead activities for safety, quality, and plant improvements through communication and leading by example.


  • Impact safety through leading by example, ensuring associates adhere to plant safety rules and programs, participation in safe behavior processes and programs and perform investigations and provide detailed documentation as it pertains to safety incidents, including root causes and corrective actions.


  • Ensure plant quality procedures and policies are executed and conduct audits as needed. Audit manufacturing inspection protocols to ensure completion and accuracy.


  • Perform administrative tasks to accurately track labor, record downtime, and production output and ensure that equipment changeover procedures, work instructions and standard operating procedures are followed as specified.


  • Obtain, record, and explain both written and verbal, variance to shift targets, machine breakdowns, off quality products, and labor inefficiencies and participate in creative solutions to overcome rate gaps.


  • Identifying constraints and inefficiencies in real time production, evaluating alternatives, and providing a direction and course of action to associates that is safe, maximizes efficiency and is cost effective.


  • Communicate and relay information to peers and supervisors concerning the performance of the production line as it pertains to the assembly, operation and performance of the line and continuously look for methods, procedural changes, or equipment modifications to improve line output and efficiencies..


  • Communicate and collaborate with support areas within the plant to achieve plant targets for safety, performance and quality.


  • Ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide individuals and work teams toward goal achievement; modifying behavior to accommodate tasks, situations, and individuals involved.





What you'll need to be successful:



  • High School Diploma / GED


  • College degree preferred, but not required


  • Three years manufacturing experience is preferred.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite and experience with SAP preferred.


  • Ability to receive and communicate directions provided in verbal or non-verbal format.


  • Ability to remain flexible and handle changes in short time frames, strong problem solving and decision making skills.


  • Must be willing and able to work shifts and overtime.
