Manufacturing Systems Engineer - Greeneville, TN   (ARTAZN)

Position Summary

Provide technical support services for Design, Deployment, Management, Configuration, and Maintenance of the Manufacturing Network Software and Hardware for the Artazn facility. Primary focus is to bridge the gap between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT), ensuring seamless integration and security of our industrial control systems with enterprise networks.  Secondary focus is to lead and/or provide support for the evaluation, installation, and maintenance of Manufacturing infrastructure including:  installation and upgrade of control systems hardware, software, control networks, user administration, database administration, security, system monitoring, backup and recovery of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems and SQL Databases.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential Functions


  • Responsible for Integration of IT and OT systems to ensure data flow and system interoperability between business and industrial networks.

  • Design, implement, and manage secure network architectures for industrial environments, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.

  • Administer OT servers, focusing on system health, performance optimization, backup strategies, and lifecycle management. Experience with VMWare, SQL, and similar technologies is essential.

  • Lead projects related to OT infrastructure enhancements, including planning, execution, and documentation.

 

Secondary Functions


  • Implement and maintain a downtime tracking program for Maintenance. This position will work with Maintenance and Engineering to provide a solution to track machine downtime and OEE performance.

  • Will be responsible for developing delivery tools to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering for OT data. This may include Wonderware Historian Data, SQL Data, and other forms of data to be delivered in charts, reports, automated emails, and other delivery mechanisms. This will enable real-time decision making based on live

  • Support commissioning and startup activity of new process control systems and manufacturing systems.

  • Will be responsible for management and maintenance of Security Video System, Access Control System, and Paging System.

  • Lead and/or support implementation of OT infrastructure standards and best practices across all Site OT and Process Automation platforms, working with other process automation engineers, IT and OT professionals

  • Work with IT department to align OT with IT policies, ensuring robust interconnections while maintaining system security.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for OT systems, minimizing downtime, and enhancing system reliability.

  • Provides monthly review of activities and issues.

  • Be a driver for reliability and continuous improvement of new and existing Infrastructure supporting manufacturing

  • Lead or coordinate technical discussions and vendor negotiation

 

Knowledge / Experience / Skills: 


  • Bachelor Science in Computer Science, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT/OT roles, preferably in manufacturing or industrial settings.

  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, cybersecurity in OT environments, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus).

  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and DCS systems.

  • Proficiency in managing virtual environments (VMWare or similar) and database systems (SQL Server, etc.).

  • Familiarity with IoT and Industry 4.0 concepts.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure in response to system failures or security threats.

  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GICSP, CCNA Industrial, Rockwell Logix, AVEVA (Wonderware), Certified Automation Professional).

  • Experience with programming for automation (like Ladder Logic, Python for data processing).

  • Must be competent in the application of OHSA, EPA, and other health & safety regulations.
