Compensation: $23 - $27 per hour

A DAY IN THE LIFE



Montrose Air Quality Services, LLC. is affiliated with Montrose Environmental Group,a high-growth Environmental Services company offering a variety of Measurement and Analytical services to a diverse range of clients in industry and government throughout the United States and abroad. Our qualified engineers, scientists, technicians, associates and policy experts are proud of our ability to objectively help industry, the public and regulators work constructively together on environmental opportunities.


Our ambient air monitoring group isseeking a Data Analyst / Technical Writer to review data and generate reports as well as other tasks to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently and profitably generating defensible data on time. Strong organizational skills are a must for this position. The following list of duties are responsibilities of the Data Analyst / Technical Writer:


  • Daily QC-review of raw field data produced by remotely-located, continuous (automated) field air monitoring equipment


  • Note, investigate, and resolve anomalies in data


  • Promptly produce Non-Conformance/Corrective Action (NC/CA) Reports to describe details of any problems identified in data QC-review


  • Track and review NC/CA Reports as they are updated throughout subsequent problem investigation and resolution activities.


  • QA-review field documentation of monitoring system QC and QA performance and systems audit results using spreadsheets and forms.


  • Receive, archive and QA-review laboratory analytical data reports of samples and associated field documentation for sample collection activities.


  • Perform accurate data entry of information from hand written field sheets.


  • Email/communicate questions, comments, changes and work completed with Project Manager and follow up on all pending questions.


  • Process raw monitoring data to identify, document and exclude any invalid data using Excel Macro software, validated field QC check and test results, QA audit results, competed NC/CA Reports and established data validation criteria in accordance with project-specific Monitoring Plan, QAPP and SOPs.


  • Supervise and ensure timely independent QA review of the processed data by designated personnel for final data validation.


  • Write and assemble data reports in accordance with the project-specific Monitoring Plan


  • Perform technical and editorial review of draft and final reports for details, grammar and spelling, calculations, results, and conclusions.


  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders (field staff, labs, clients, regulators, etc.) to ensure data reports conform to project and regulatory agency requirements and are submitted in a timely manner.


  • Promptly communicate to the Project Manager unacceptable test results, recurring or systemic problems with monitoring project activities or operations and work with the Project Manager and other project team members to provide solutions.


  • Archive all paper and electronic QA/QC test documentation, test evaluation results, completed NC/CA Reports, raw data files, data processing files, data reports and related communications with clients and regulatory agencies.


  • Train junior reporting staff on the duties listed above.


  • Contribute improvement ideas to the Project Manager and other project team members and assist in the development of templates, content, and standard procedures for data management, processing, validation and reporting activities.


  • Perform various clerical work where needed (printing, scanning, filing, mailing)


  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.


  • Create and update SOPs for the group


  • Participate in and lead training for career development, safety and maintaining required certifications



NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS



To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field.


  • Minimum 2 years of experience with gas chromatography is preferable


  • Experience with understanding and evaluating chromatograms is needed


  • Expertise in organic chemistry is a bonus


  • Advanced ambient testing knowledge preferable


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in ambient monitoring preferable


  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills


  • Ability to perform example calculations to verify spreadsheet results


  • Punctual and professional when responding to communication


  • Able to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management


  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills


  • Able to work independently, managing multiple responsibilities. This position will often be working on multiple reports at once that are in varying stages of completion


  • Effective verbal and written communication skills


  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively


  • Strong writing and presentation skills


  • Resourcefulness, flexibility, and resiliency to operate in a dynamic work environment


  • Leads solutions through the use of collaboration, technology and/or innovative strategies


  • Ability and motivation to learn, execute and train on advanced technologies, project or skills


  • Proficient knowledge with Google and Microsoft office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)


  • Capability to pass background checks and initial and random drug screening
