Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Sales & Marketing, the Business Development Engineer is responsible for supporting the sales process for all sales worldwide. Perform a variety of sales and service duties required to identify new customers, support field sales staff in managing customer relationships, and assist with closing opportunities. May also provide order information and technical assistance.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Research and solicit new potential sales contacts by cold-calling, networking, and asking for referrals.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and emails from prospective customers and follow up on all incoming sales leads.
  • Put "voice time" before email as the best ways to communicate with customers.
  • Provide sales prospects with appropriate UEI solutions, prepare quotes, and follow-up on quotes as needed.
  • Provide technical support by phone/email to assist customers in getting systems running effectively and to maximize performance of equipment already purchased.
  • Support field sales team with technical and applications issues.
  • Manage Legacy Key Accounts: Support and cultivate relationships with legacy key house accounts within the UEI business segment by actively participating in client meetings, providing ongoing support, and identifying new business opportunities through the CRM system.
  • Provide Global Sales and Technical Support: Deliver comprehensive sales and technical assistance to global distributors and international customers, including opportunity management, technical sales application support, and the creation of accurate and competitive quotes.
  • Maintain communication and build relationships with existing customers.
  • Utilizing the CRM system, track activity and maintaining a complete record of account status and sales leads.
  • Assist field sales team in targeting, setting up, and managing appointments with new accounts.
  • Interact with various department personnel including Applications Engineers, Marketing, and Engineering to resolve sales-related problems.
  • Attend trade shows, company seminars, and meetings of industrial organizations and be prepared to demonstrate hardware and software technologies to potential customers.
  • Assist with training opportunities both in-house and onsite with customers, as may be required.
  • Submit weekly sales reports to the Sr. Director of Strategic Marketing & Business Development with an update on sales activities.
  • Participate in weekly sales calls to update and discuss sales strategy.
  • Attend quarterly sales meetings.
  • Contribute to and develop new presentations and materials.
  • Identify market opportunities and partner with Marketing/MarCom on lead generation.
  • Coordinate and administer new employee and coop. technical training programs.
  • Ensure that work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition and established company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required due to government military contracts.
  • Due to the nature of UEI's programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
  • 3 years previous experience as an engineer or technical position
  • Domain experience in DAQ, embedded control, test and measurement or closely related field.
  • Up to 40% travel.
Desired Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or direct technical background preferred.
  • Persuasive communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information.
