Overview

IDC's Enabling Technologies research team is seeking a Research Director to join our established Processors and Architectures research program within the semiconductors and enabling technologies team. This position will be responsible for gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative information to create semiconductor market research studies that provide strategic insights and advice to our clients focused on data processing semiconductors for the datacenter, client, and edge computing systems, including servers, PCs and workstations, mobile phones, tablets, and embedded and IoT systems. Tracking the companies playing within these markets and communicating this outlook and vision to IDC clients will be the primary responsibility in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market sizing, forecasting and share reporting for each of these industry segments by compute type and technology.
  • Analyze market dynamics and communicating findings with stakeholders across the ecosystem.
  • Track semiconductor and architecture trends within data processing semiconductors market by staying up to date with the latest market developments and technology roadmaps
  • Perform pricing analysis and supply/demand analysis.
  • Collaborate with IDC analysts around the world to shape our research for data processing semiconductors in datacenter, client, edge computing systems.
  • Maintain quarterly market share and semiannual forecast publication schedule and execute on custom consulting.

Respond to inquiries and developing relationships within the industry including top executives and marketing managers within semiconductor, OEM, and service provider accounts along with buy-side and sell-side financial analysts and press



Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8 - 10 years of pertinent industry experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of client devices, data center, and edge infrastructure architectures used by OEMs, cloud service providers, and communications service providers.
  • Strong understanding of the semiconductor supply chain with strong insights in microprocessors (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs), field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), applications processing units (APUs), baseband processors, and specialized ASICs and ASSPs used in computing workloads.
  • Strong business acumen and a deep understanding of data processing semiconductor vendors, their products, and ecosystem
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong presentation skills suitable for client events, conferences, and small executive meetings
  • Strong vendor and market modeling skills using Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables) with detailed focus on execution of data deliverables.
  • Strong ability to scope client needs for standard and customer research projects and to engage prospective customers and develop business opportunities
  • This position involves 10% travel for industry events and customer projects

This role can be remotely based in an approved US location.

Salary range and additional compensation, including discretionary bonuses and incentive pay, are determined by a rigorous review process. This process considers the experience, education, certifications, and skills required for the specific role, equity with similarly situated employees, as well as employer-verified US region-specific market data provided by an independent 3rd party partner. The expected total annual compensation, depending on location and experience, is between $145,000 and $165,000USD and is inclusive of base salary and variable compensation (if applicable).
