Job Description



Eurofins EAG Materials Science (EAG Laboratories), part of the Eurofins network, is a global leader in analytical testing services. EAG Laboratories provides consulting and expert witness services in materials failure analysis to clients including a diverse range of industries and business sectors with companies that design, manufacture or incorporate products for tomorrow's technology driven world.


We have an opportunity for a Senior Consulting Metallurgist to work on industrial failure analysis and for expert witness support in litigation cases relating to product liability and patent infringement. We work with automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, maritime, consumer products and medical device industries. In this role, you will be involved in developing and supervising the failure analysis test methods and procedures, defining protocols, and investigating the root cause of product failures. This role is at the forefront of providing scientific expertise and data interpretation for industrial failures and expert testimony in legal cases.


The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of metallurgy and advanced failure analysis techniques, and provide expertise relating to metals, polymers, composites and ceramics. Experience in performing root cause failure analysis in areas such as stress corrosion cracking, fatigue and other cracking mechanisms, contamination problems, wear failures, adhesion and bonding problems, corrosion/oxidation, improper heat treatments, and plating issues is required.

This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).All accepted applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by ITAR. Qualifications



Ideal candidate will have:


  • Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science with 5+ years experience

  • Broad understanding of metallurgy and advanced failure analysis techniques, with expertise in metals, polymers, composites, and ceramics

  • Proficiency in SEM/EDX, metallography, and familiarity with surface analysis and organic analysis techniques

  • Extensive experience in problem-solving and failure analysis, including stress corrosion cracking, fatigue, contamination, wear, adhesion, corrosion/oxidation, heat treatments, and plating issues

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data for industrial failures and expert testimony

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office or laboratory to access file cabinets, machinery, equipment etc.

  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead

  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.

  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

Additional Information



Compensation Range: $150,000 - $180,000. (Salary is commensurate with experience and degree of technical expertise.)
