About the Opportunity



The Business Analyst, Vegetation Management Analytics and Finance, reports to the Supervisor of Supervisor Vegetation Management Analytics & Finance, and location is open to any FirstEnergy location within the operations footprint, subject to the hiring managers approval.

This position is responsible for oversight and support of all finance and analytics within Vegetation Management on Transmission and Distribution within the FirstEnergy territory. Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to all aspects of the program for Vegetation Management with specific focus on the business unit financials and perform analysis on related data.
  • Exercise sound decision making by developing alternatives and recommendations to drive work processes, improve reliability and financial efficiencies into the vegetation management program.
  • Assist in gathering information for program initiatives and projects including, data mining, data analysis, charts, graphs, running reports, formal presentations for Executive Leadership.
  • Use Microsoft PowerBI Reports, Dashboards, ToadData Point,QlikView Reports, Microsoft PowerApps, Power Automate and other FE department databases reviewing data for business unit needs.
  • Ensure that business financial activities, processes and procedures are performed in accordance with all applicable internal company accounting requirements and parameters. When necessary, investigate, update accounting policies and/or create and write new accounting policies when needed.
  • Providing corporate support of vegetation management program with financial and reliability related requests for business unit pertaining to such things as internal/external audits, regulatory rate cases, legal testimonies and hearings, grants, benchmarking surveys, business cases, key regulatory filings, business unit reporting, accruals, forecasts, budget tracking, internal controls, capital portfolio, strategic plans, metrics, charters, priorities for program initiatives and projects.
  • Responsible for supporting business unit contract administration, bid file/should cost updates, purchase orders, change orders documentation/edits, requisitions, sourcing procurement methods, working on procurement request with Supply Chain, and contract scorecard metrics.
  • Coupa liaison providing training, support, and assisting with requests as needed.
  • Assisting with projects and on teams to esure tasks and duties required to maintain current program requirements are executed according to business objectives and deadlines in support of field operations.
  • Identify and support opportunities for financial savings and improved reliability, revising business unit processes, procedures, workflows, and other areas of improvement (i.e. FE Forward initiatives, rate cases, business cases, strategic plans, innovative cost savings measures and/or performance analysis, etc).
  • Continuously monitor program for performance, reliability, compliance, operational and financial metrics associated with improvements/declines in operational key performance indicators, business unit strategic plan goals, provide clear and concise findings, and support change management/mitigation/action plans where needed.
  • Support implementation of FE Forward, and vegetation management operational initiatives such as the VM Strategic Plan.
  • Attending meetings for the development, communication, training, support, and implementation of current and new program requirements with vegetation management staff, contractors, and any other external stakeholders including industry conferences and peer utilities.
  • Provide excellent customer service, and collaborate with Vegetation Management employees, contractors and cross-functional departments as needed.
  • Perform office support storm restoration activities as required.
  • This position will require moderate travel and overnight stays (25%-50%) throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and New York.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.



Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Conservation, Forestry Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, or related discipline.
  • In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, Associate Degree along with 4 years of related work experience, or High School Diploma (or GED) along with 7 or more years related work experience in Conservation, Forestry Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, or related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience with Federal and State compliance standards, a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in utility vegetation management or related discipline, highly preferred.
  • Must possess advanced computer proficiency skills with numerous PC software and applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and present himself/herself in a professional manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing skills and experience.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and note-taking skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with internal and external customers.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities, provide both internal and external quality customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills necessary to operate in a team or consensus decision-making environment, possessing the ability to make quick assessment and deliver well thought out decisions when situations arise that require independent judgment.
  • Must be able to resolve conflict, communicate, negotiate, and execute as needed in team environments.
  • Must have the ability to build relationships and credibility, and provide staff support to management and higher levels of professionals.
  • Must have the ability to proactively work with staff and contractors to assure there is uniformity, consistency and results obtained to meet business unit objectives and identify and implement efficiencies where applicable.
  • Ability to work with business units to develop standard operating procedures, documenting workflow and process steps.
  • Must be able to support strategic process improvement plans and have the ability to implement and execute new process improvement changes for key performance areas.
  • Understand the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and possess the ability to work safely.
  • Possess the physical ability to perform work in the field in all weather conditions and traverse difficult terrain to support and assess the Emergent Technologies.
  • Must be willing to perform moderate (25%-50%) travel and overnight stays.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle to commute to various locations as required, possessing a valid driver's license.
