Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $50.00/hour, up to 29 hours/week

Position Summary:

The Taneja College of Pharmacy is creating a Doctor of Pharmacy program at USF Health that will create an academic and clinical learning environment known for producing outstanding pharmacist clinicians trained in advanced principles to provide exceptional patient-centered care.

Staff pharmacists deliver purpose, models USF Taneja College of Pharmacy's vision and values, and demonstrates genuine, authentic care for our patients, while helping oversee USF Doctor of Pharmacy students and technicians.

Staff pharmacists adhere to all policies and procedures necessary to maintain successful licensure as a community pharmacy in the State of Florida and complies with all federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • General Pharmacist Responsibilities

    • Maintains proper pharmacy and general safety and security procedures and standards.
    • Performs pharmacist tasks including drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
    • Reviews, interprets and accurately dispenses prescribed medications when necessitated by workload.
    • Follows-up with medical providers' offices to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions and allergies to suggest alternative medications, and answer medical provider questions.
    • Answers questions and provides information to patients on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
    • Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve patient's issue(s) and prevent payment rejections. Follows-up with insurance companies as well as medical providers and participates in 3rd party audit.
    • Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
    • Resolves patient's issue(s) in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
    • Develops strong relationships with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Supports efforts on enhancing patient experience by increasing focus on healthcare services (e.g. patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and perform retail, clinical, or wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness) thereby promoting the shift of the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.
    • Counsels patients and answers their questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refers to medical provider as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly, health needs addressed, and satisfaction with service.
    • Ensures the use of all elements of the Good Faith Dispensing policy in conjunction with state and federal controlled substance laws when filling prescriptions. Pharmacist has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the elements of Good Faith are present.
    • Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, diabetes awareness and other preventive healthcare services.
    • Maintains current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare by reading pharmacy related journals, company publications, and communications.
    • Maintains current knowledge of information technology associated with pharmacy systems such as PioneerRx, registers, automation to provide support to customers as well as pharmacy staff.
  • Recordkeeping / Inventory Management

    • Maintains reports for controlled, outdated and recalled medications.
    • Enforces compliance with all local, state and federal laws, university policies and procedures, and state regulations regarding intern, pharmacy technician licensure.
    • Maintains all state and federal record keeping for legend drugs and controlled substances.
    • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste documents.
    • Assays medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
  • Specialty Services

    • Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care.
    • Completes prior authorizations per clinic policy and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • Licensure as a pharmacist in accordance with Chapter 465, Florida Statues and one year of pharmacy experience.

Preferred:

  • Pharm. D. degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of work-related experience
  • Active Florida Pharmacy License


Other:

  • Immunization Certification through an accredited organization (e.g., APhA)
  • No pending felony charges or convictions for criminal offenses involving controlled substances
  • Satisfactory reference checks in addition to applicable checks of employment verification, criminal background, credit check, sanction lists and licensure
  • This appointment requires pre-employment drug testing.
