The Extended Coverage I is a key operations link between Covenant, Professional drivers, and our customers. This position works outside of regular business hours to manage the fleet team and customer interactions by Coaching/mentoring a group of experienced professional drivers, providing excellent customer relations, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, implementing cost initiatives, assigned projects and reporting business results. This position is promotable to Extended Coverage III with experience and responsibility.
Responsibilities

Review the shift turnover from the previous shift and take the required action
Work with other internal departments to resolve customer or company issues when necessary.
Maintain measurable items to indicate how well the team/account is performing.
Retain a quality driving force by exceeding the needs of our customers and drivers
Profitability through providing consistent utilization of company assets
Fleet Management duties may include:
Track and trace the trucks in the morning and through the day.
Track and manage home time requests in accordance with accounts expectations.
Maintain positive and productive communication with drivers to deliver on time, prevent service failures, and reduce turnover.
Receive ETAs and PTAs and manage throughout the day.
Receive confirmations of load assignments.
Develop an effective working relationship with assigned professional drivers and understand the needs and performance of each professional driver.
Communicate and establish expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, and provide ongoing feedback for the professional driver.
Customer Service duties may include:
Manage and solicit business from a specific or assigned number of customers by using daily available capacity.
Solicit freight from existing customer base when demand indicates.
Negotiate freight rates with customers that do not have contract rates.
Communicate with customers to maintain good miles as well as meet operational needs (Home time, safety, maintenance, etc....)
Commit to and receive detailed customer load information by telephone, fax, or electronic tendering.
Input all load information into computer system accurately to ensure system integrity.
Monitor and trace loads so that follow-up can be made to customers regarding late pickups and or deliveries, as well as any other load changes that may occur.
Anticipate and facilitate problem resolution on load issues to meet or exceed total satisfaction of customers.
Assist in collecting and maintaining current customer information in the system.
Qualifications
Knowledge of DOT regulations and Driver HOS
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast paced and always changing environment
Ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised
Ability to Manage people effectively
3+ Experience in the Transportation industry, preferably in Fleet Management, Load Planning or Customer Service
High school diploma require
Bachelor’s Degree and/or 4 Years equivalent work experience in Business, Logistics, or other closely related field preferred
AS400 experience preferred

Covenant’s compensation philosophy’s intent is to use a competitive total compensation strategy to determine the current market value of a position while also considering individual factors such as performance in current position, time in seat of current position, experience, level of responsibility/accountability, and longevity with the company. The system will be objective and non-discriminatory.
Pay Range: $40,000.63 -$62,120.37
Pay Grade: 6
