ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF VOICE (CONTINUING TRACK), SCHOOL OF MUSIC, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE

INTRODUCTION/POSITION:

The School of Music in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Delaware, seeks a full-time, continuing track Assistant Professor of Voice to teach applied voice and courses in voice literature. This is a full-time, fully benefited position with a focus on teaching. The School of Music is a vibrant community of musicians, educators, and scholars, providing dynamic performances and academic experiences for a diverse and inclusive community of students across the many areas and disciplines at the University of Delaware. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach applied lessons in classical, musical theater, and commercial styles to voice majors.
  • Hold weekly studio classes.
  • Recruit undergraduate majors in Applied Music (Performance) and Music Education.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in voice literature.
  • Participate in school activities and governance and service to the School of Music, the college, and/or the university, as workload allows.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • A completed DMA in voice performance/pedagogy
  • Experience teaching classical, musical theater, and commercial applied voice at the university and/or community college level; preference will be given to candidates with five years of full-time university and/or community college-level experience
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in lyric diction, voice pedagogy, and/or voice literature
  • Experience and proficiency as a vocal soloist, clinician, presenter, and/or researcher
  • A strong belief in the value of a robust choral tradition and experience recruiting undergraduate voice majors
  • Low voice candidates (mezzo soprano, contralto, countertenor, baritone, bass-baritone, or bass) are especially encouraged to apply

VOICE AT UD: Voice students in the School of Music receive training and access to high-level solo and choral performing opportunities; admission to the area is extremely competitive. All styles of voice repertoire and modes of creative storytelling are celebrated and the Music Education Choral/General program features one of the most unique degree structures in the country. The School of Music includes several celebrated choral ensembles, including the internationally renowned UD Chorale, and a vibrant, award-winning production company and creativity incubator, UD Lyric Theatre. Several of the School’s choral ensembles frequently receive invitations to national and regional ACDA conferences. UD Lyric Theatre performs multiple productions (with orchestral accompaniment) in the original language each year, offers an exciting series of commercial voice events, and has received multiple invitations to the National Opera Association Convention and national and international arts and music festivals.

CONTINUING TRACK (CT): The continuing track is UD’s full-time, continuing faculty line, similar to the tenure track. CT faculty enjoy contracts that increase in length over time and, like tenure-track faculty, receive full and generous benefits, including family-friendly benefits, as part of their compensation package. CT faculty with terminal degrees hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion up to full professor; CT faculty without terminal degrees are at the instructor rank and have a parallel path to promotion. THE UD SCHOOL OF MUSIC: Our mission in the School of Music is to provide the best educational opportunities for music majors’ professional development as artists, scholars, creators, and educators.
