Responsible for managing aspects of the monthly and annual accounting close processes, including analytical review of the monthly operating results, review of journal entries, and ensuring accurate accounting records are maintained
What the Candidate Will Do
Assist in research of relevant accounting standards, write position papers, and ensure related transactions are accounted for appropriately
Review monthly cash reconciliations and assist with correcting all reconciling items.
Support the annual external audit process, including coordinating with the internal teams to ensure workpapers for audit are prepared timely and accurately
Work with the other managers in the Corporate Controller team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial information and consolidate results into corporate financials
Closely partner with Overhead teams, including other Accounting groups, to ensure proper accounting for transactions and to assist with analysis versus budget and forecast
Provide guidance and assist with daily close workflow schedule and task prioritization
Review and approve journal entries to general ledger accounts
Review and evaluate various balance sheet and income statement accounts to determine whether the accounts are correctly stated and initiate any changes needed in the general ledger
Understand actual and year-to-date results to prior period, prior year, and budget; provide explanations as needed; support financial reporting team with pertinent footnote disclosures
Provide direction and coordinate team efforts related to project assignments; ensure follow-through to completion
Coordinate, review, and approve monthly account reconciliations; ensure control processes are utilized to minimize risk
Lead and develop members of the corporate accounting cash team
Maintain up-to-date policy and procedure documentation / ad hoc research
Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and processes across the accounting organization
Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure proper accounting treatment
Basic Qualifications
Five plus years of experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting
Preferred Qualifications
Two plus years of public accounting experience strongly preferred
Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions and with external users of financial information
Strong managerial skills and proven ability to lead and mentor staff
Proficient computer skills including email, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills (advanced skill is preferred)
CPA is preferred
Master's Degree Preferred
Advanced communication skills: Relates well to all kinds of people, inside and outside the organization. Builds effective and constructive relationships. Listens and builds appropriate rapport. Uses diplomacy and tact. Ability to explain complicated accounting regulations in a way that is understandable to someone with limited knowledge
Ability to interpret and implement GAAP standards related to corporate accounting, including income taxes, acquisitions, leases, complex debt and equity arrangements, and other pronouncements as they become applicable
Strong understanding of functional processes in Oracle or comparable ERP system (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, Fixed Assets)
Demonstrated track record of identifying and implementing process improvements
Knowledge of Microsoft tools and other applications: Ability to leverage Excel and other MS programs, including Word, Outlook, Skype, PowerPoint, etc.
