Description
Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to build a pool of part-timeInstructional & Classroom Support Technician 2 for the CDL program on the Walla Walla Campus to work in overlapping shifts to ensure continual coverage. These positions will work as schedules permit and WWCC will contact applicants as needed.
Commercial Truck Driving Technicians will help assist with consistent, effective and safe classroom and truck driving lab instruction. These positions are funded as part of the CDL program 3-year grant allocation.

General Responsibilities:
The part-time position will assist the instructor with daily tasks involved in the classroom and truck driving lab setting. This includes instructing and monitoring safety procedures involved in the various truck driving processes, and operation of commercial vehicles. In addition, the Instructional Tech will help with lab housekeeping, set-up, and hands on demonstrations to assure program students have the tools and help available to safely and successfully meet each day's instructional goal. Students learn to maneuver large vehicles on crowded streets and in highway traffic, as well as learn to inspect trucks and freight for compliance with regulations. Position also aids instructor with continuous Truck Driving lab configuration updates, truck maintenance and safety compliance to ensure efficient instruction, as well as helping to address any potential social and physical distancing requirements.

Proper gear usage and recover/shifting procedures
Coupling & uncoupling
Starting/stopping
Procedures for turning
Procedures for entering intersections
Railroad crossing procedures
Demonstrate road test procedures
Prep and support instructional spaces and activities
Tasks include:
Set up classroom and lab trucks for instructor/student use; ensuring safe learning environment paperwork for state requirements.
General office tasks
Email, filing, communications, trainings, committee assignments, area meetings
Competencies

Required Qualifications :
Possession of a valid commercial driver's license and two years of full-time work experience as a professional driver.
Demonstrated proficiency in using common computer applications
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
Driving school graduate
Teaching or performing instructional technician duties
Bilingual in English/Spanish

Pre-Employment Testing: Prior to the first time a driver performs a safety-sensitive function for WWCC, the driver shall undergo testing for controlled substances.
This part-time temporary position (up to 17-hours per week) is located at the Walla Walla Campus. Vacation, sick leave and personal leave benefits are available on a pro-rated basis.
Work setting and job-related hazards include classroom, truck driving outdoor lab, inside trucks, ability to perform tasks that require physical ability, including lifting, climbing, bending, stretching, twisting, crawling and moving, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds with or without the use of hand truck or dolly. Willingness and ability to operate tools, machinery, equipment, and other tools of the trade. This position works directly with instructor and students to ensure safe and effective program instruction.
