Responsibilities:


GENERALThe role and mission of LSCO place major emphasis on the teaching component. Therefore, the instructional faculty position at LSCO emphasizes teaching, scholarship, and service. The apportionment of responsibilities may be modified for a specific position and for a specific semester due to classes not making or other variables that affect teaching assignments. Faculty will be expected to teach assigned classes according to approved course syllabi or the instructional dean.Each faculty member will schedule office hours, including the regular working hours (Mon-Fri 8:00 - 5:00), not excluding evening hours when classes are in session. During these office hours, the faculty member will be available to counsel students and will be available for departmental, divisional, and institutional obligations. Refer to the current faculty handbook for minimum office hour requirements. Additional events, committee meetings, professional development sessions, graduations, convocations, etc., require the attendance of faculty outside of their posted office hours or the typical working day.Maintain academic standards as established by the Nursing Department. Teach students in the classroom, clinical skills lab, and clinical affiliate facilities. Participate in all classes of assigned courses. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Upward Mobility Nursing Curriculum.


Qualifications:


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



A. Teaching:




  • Classroom preparation, supervision, and instruction in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or HyFlex deliveries, as needed and determined by the College Administration.

  • Field-based or off-campus instruction, as needed and determined by the College Administration.

  • Laboratory design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities related to courses assigned.

  • Student performance measurement, including:

    • Preparation, administration, timely grading, and evaluation of classroom assignments, tests, papers, examinations, research projects, etc.,

    • Reporting of grades on or before the deadline provided by the Registrar;

    • Assessment, reporting, and artifact submission of student learning outcomes, course-level, and program-level outcomes








  • Student interactions to provide course-level support, academic advisement, assistance with degree plans, registration, and course assistance.

  • Coordination and supervision of student activities directly related to the academic program.

  • Experiments in teaching methods and teaching-oriented research, including developing and implementing effective learning environments.

  • Timely selection and procurement of books, films, and other materials for the classroom, library, learning center, or laboratory use.

  • Periodic evaluation of library holdings and recommendations of books and other materials to be ordered by the library or Gator Success Center.

  • Development of new courses and programs of study, including web-based and other technology-based instruction.

  • Active participation in curriculum development, including establishing program and student learning outcomes and reporting learning outcomes as required by departmental procedures.






Professional Development and Pedagogy Advancement:

  • On-going reading and research to maintain proficiency and growth in one's field of professional specialization.

  • Attend professional development opportunities regularly, as the College Administration requires. Holding membership or office in professional associations.

  • Attend and participate in professional association meetings, conferences, and conventions.


C. Service:

  • Support student success by assisting with and participating in commencement, PTK inductions, and other related ceremonies. Refer to the current faculty handbook for the minimum required commencement participation.

  • Serve on institutional and affiliated committees.

  • Serve on professional association committees.

  • Participate in college-wide assessment activities.

  • Participate in institutionally sponsored activities to recruit students.

  • Interview and screen candidates for faculty and staff appointments.

  • Coordinate, advise, and supervise student organizations or activities not directly related to the academic program.

  • Student support with academic advisement, assistance with degree plans, registration, and graduation assistance.

  • Participate in sponsored community service or community projects.

  • Volunteer tutoring support at Gator Success Center.


D. Other:

· Comply with Office Hour requirements outlined in this Job Description and the Faculty Handbook

  • Be available to counsel students

  • Be available for departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings

  • Attend required committee meetings, required events, required professional development sessions, required graduations, required convocations, and even those scheduled outside of the typical working day

  • Other duties as assigned by College Administration.

  • Faculty members who serve as Student Organization/Club Sponsors have significant responsibility for student and campus activities and are therefore considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the federal Jeanne Clery Act. Faculty members who serve as a Student Organization/Club Sponsor will be responsible for reporting information in compliance with the Clery Act.





EDUCATION


Bachelor's degree in nursing; currently enrolled in a master's degree nursing program and earned a minimum of 50% of the required credits towards the master's degree in nursing with a contingency plan to complete within the year.


Hold a master's degree or higher in the teaching discipline OR If a master's or higher degree is in any discipline other than nursing, have a documented plan to complete within a designated time frame or have completed at least six (6) graduate semester hours in nursing;


Must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
Meets Programmatic Accreditation Qualifications.
