Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

The Joan M. Lafleur College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Master of Health Care Administration Program (MHCA), at Texas Southern University is seeking enthusiastic student-centered qualified and experienced individuals to teach as Adjunct Faculty. Under the direction of the department chair and the MHCA program director, the Adjunct Faculty will be responsible for developing course materials, enthusiastically lecturing, grading assignments and examinations in a timely manner, providing support to students in the classroom setting, and being expeditiously responsive to student communications. There is no research or service expectation in this position; however, adjunct faculty are invited to participate in all related Program and College activities, especially those pertaining to student engagement. This is a part-time position.


Essential Duties Summary:



  • Prepare and deliver lectures on assigned topics

  • Conduct, teach, and manage face-to-face and online assigned undergraduate courses

  • Develop course materials and syllabi in accordance with college guidelines

  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in program, departmental and college-wide activities as schedule permits

  • Attend/complete required trainings

  • Adhere to college policies and procedures

  • Stay current on the profession, health and health care related news and developments

  • If needed, serve as an academic advisor for students and evaluate student coursework

  • Be responsive to Program, College, and University communications, as needed

  • Engage in other assigned activities that support teaching responsibilities

  • Review and respond in a timely manner to any other Program, College, or University-related communications (as appropriate)

Education:

Doctorate degree (or ABD) in health administration or related discipline (e.g. public health, DBA) with health care administration experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Adjunct instructors must:


  • Possess a deep understanding of the subject they will be teaching. They must be able to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner and provide real-world examples to help students understand the material.

  • Be able to develop and implement effective lesson plans, prepare, and deliver lectures, and facilitate classroom discussions. They must also be able to assess student learning and provide constructive feedback.

  • Establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and staff. They must be approachable, supportive, and respectful of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.

  • Be familiar with technology and comfortable using it in the classroom. They must be able to use learning management systems, online communication tools, and other technology to support student learning.

  • Manage their time effectively to meet the demands of teaching, grading, and other administrative tasks. They must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism. They must adhere to college policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality of student information, and be committed to providing a positive learning environment for all students.

At least 3-5 years of current relevant health administration experienceProficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and WordOnline teaching experience or the ability to grasp and effectively use the technology

  • Using or carrying equipment.
