Summary of Duties

Working out of the College's Justin Borra Center for Behavioral Services the Director, Student Counseling Services will oversee mental health services and support to our students, promoting emotional well-being and academic success. This position is vital in fostering a supportive campus environment that encourages student resilience and success. This position is funded by the College's Title III grant.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Coordinate individual, couples, and group therapy for students dealing with a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, stress management, academic pressures, and relationship concerns.

  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention in urgent/walk-in appointments.

  • Develop and implement mental health awareness programs, workshops, and resources to educate students, staff, and faculty about mental health issues, coping strategies, and self-care wellness practices.

  • Provide consultation services to faculty, staff, and the College community. Participate in campus committees, partner with departments for mental health-related activities/events, and act as a liaison with community organizations. Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources regarding the Employee Assistance Program.

  • Maintain documentation consistent with governing laws and ethics.

  • Engage in continuous professional education to stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in mental health care. Provide the campus community with mental health-related professional development as needed.

  • Manage the assessment process for the department and utilize results to improve the student experience.

  • Oversee the College's Peer Advocate program including the hiring, training, and supervision of student employees as Peer Advocates.

  • Serve as an active member of institutional meetings and within Shared Governance as appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Experience, Skills & Abilities


    Required:


  • Strong understanding of the mental health issues affecting college studentsincluding academic pressure, social challenges, and mental health stigma.

  • Proficient in using standardized office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain positive relationships.

  • Adhere to the legal and ethical standards of professional practice.

  • Ability to work well in small groups or teams, as well as work independently.

  • Participate in clinical supervision as needed on a scheduled basis.

  • Strong public speaking skills to provide quality presentations.



  • Preferred:


  • Knowledge of community resources available to support students' mental health needs.

  • Training in trauma-informed care or similar approaches.
  • Education & Certifications


    Required:


  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling or closely related field.

  • A minimum of two years post-graduate work as a mental health professional.

  • Valid Ohio licensure as a (i.e. LISW or LPCC) to provide mental health services.
