Overview

We are seeking a full-time Program Manager Engineering in our Portland, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a cross-functional leader accountable for ensuring excellence in product development and execution of R&D efforts. You will also proactively drive cross-functional, global collaboration across all organizations including, but not limited to Product Management, Product Engineering Teams, Product Technology Engineering, and Quality and Manufacturing.

Essential Functions


  • Leads effective meetings to drive cross-functional, global team effort toward program success while identifying and resolving conflicts within the team and escalates to senior management as necessary

  • Communicates to the Executive Sponsors, Product Managers, Product Teams, Manufacturing Teams, and Sourcing Teams to ensure all parties are aware of project milestones, risks, changes, and key deliverables

  • Organizes, plans, and directs program schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation action

  • Manages the coordination, communication, and negotiation of changes between Product Managers and the Development Teams

  • Coordinates overall system milestones, builds, and beta testing

  • Serves as the primary contact for Product Management and Quality Teams, coordinating first level FQC and stakeholder issue triage

  • Develops and implements programs of continuous improvement throughout the team's product life cycle to ensure cost, quality, and customer satisfaction goals are defined and achieved

  • Improves program management tools and standard processes for Garmin products

  • Acts as the primary point of escalation in the event of a customer or Garmin-driven issue

  • Reviews new programs to ensure that business requirements and capabilities are fully communicated, documented, and approved by all key stakeholders

  • Demonstrates a deep and working understanding of Garmin's business operations and departmental interdependence

  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques

  • Utilizes advanced program management skills on complex Optical Technology programs to ensure communication of scope, milestones, risks and decisions.


  • Coordinate overall optical system milestones, builds and beta testing.


  • Develop and implement a program of continuous improvement throughout Optical Technology team's product life cycle to ensure cost, quality and customer satisfaction goals are defined and achieved.


  • Improve the program management tools and standard processes for Garmin Optics products.


Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Management AND a minimum of 10 years of relevant program or project management experience

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team to successfully execute projects of any scale or complexity and bring together cross functional teams for effective problem resolution

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Previous experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint)

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Management

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)

  • Previous global program development and program management experience

  • Knowledge and experience working with cross functional and cross site teams
