Position Overview


The College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University seeks exceptional early-career clinician-scientists to apply for a full-time (12 months) tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Division of Periodontology. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join an active academic program and contribute to the mission of the College and the Division of Periodontology through the pursuit of research, teaching, and service. Applicants with research expertise in periodontal pathogenesis, hard tissue biology, osteoimmunology, novel diagnostic imaging, digital technology implementation, translational clinical trials, and wound healing are preferred and especially encouraged to apply. The primary responsibilities of this position will be the scholarly pursuit of research and extramural funding, with other duties including support of the overall mission of the division through teaching and service, participation in university and college governance, contribution to the college's continuing education programs, and practice in the college's affiliated intramural Dental Faculty Practice. Salary and startup package are commensurate with qualifications and experience.


This position is eligible for The Provost's Tenure-Track Fellow to Faculty Program which aims to recruit early career scholars whose accomplishments make them competitive for faculty positions. The successful candidate will start as a fellow (appointed as instructor) for up to 2 years. During the fellowship, the fellow will have focused research time with limited teaching and will conduct mentored research under the guidance of a designated faculty mentoring team. Research funding will also be provided. The fellow will be expected to participate in the academic life of the university and academic unit and participate in professional development programs offered by The Ohio State University (OSU) Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) to establish a trajectory to allow successful transition to the faculty position and long-term success over their career. At the end of one to two years, the fellow will transition to Assistant Professor and the tenure clock will begin.


During the Assistant Professor phase, the candidate will conduct research and participate in other scholarly activities, contribute to the division's graduate and undergraduate curriculum, and engage with service and leadership opportunities within and outside of the College of Dentistry and OSU.



Performance Objective



  • Develop research focuses that lead to grant awards

  • Conduct proposed research projects leading to conference presentations, publications, etc.

  • Develop leadership and collaborative skills

  • Fulfill the education mission by contributing to didactic and clinical teaching in predoctoral and/or postgraduate programs.



Education and Experience Requirements



R
equired: Qualified candidates must have a DDS/DMD and/or equivalent degree, a certificate of advanced education in periodontics, and an MS/or PhD degree. Candidates also must be eligible for a full or limited teaching license by the Ohio State Dental Board. Information on state dental licensure is available at the Ohio State Dental Board website.




Desired: Board certification by the American Board of Periodontology. Candidates demonstrating a track record of research training, scientific publications, and research funding or great potential for receiving funding, will be given preference.


Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various educational, research, and service-related communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.
