Job Description Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the safety and security of faculty, students, staff and visitors within the Perelman School of Medicine and adjacent environs by coordinating all aspects of the School's electronic security measures, including, computerized access control and alarm systems and closed-circuit television (CCTV). This position serves as the primary liaison and point of contact for vendors, University Police and Facilities Services. Furthermore, it is the sole source for providing electronic access, in varying levels, to the School and to specific areas of the School to faculty, students, staff, visitors, vendors, and contractors. This position is considered “essential.”
Job Description
Associates Degree and 3 to 5 years' experience or equivalent combination of both required. 5 to 7 years' experience preferred.
Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a large and diverse constituency. Strong customer service orientation. High level of personal integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and confidentiality. Must be able to prioritize projects. Computer aptitude required with the use of computers and other electronic security equipment being an integral part of this position. Ability to exercise professional judgment in making sound decisions. Must be a self-motivated independent thinker that will be required to perform without constant supervision. Must be able to rapidly adapt to changing circumstances. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. Must be able to respond to multiple incidents/ situations simultaneously. Must remain alert at all times. Must present self in a business-like, professional manner befitting a representative of the Perelman School of Medicine. In emergent situations, must be able to work at night, weekends, and overtime on short notice. Employees in this classification are considered "essential" employees, and as such are required to make it to work regardless of weather conditions or other factors. Security staff may be required to work on holidays and at other times when the general University population does not. Compensation for time thus worked will be in accordance with University policy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Perelman School of Medicine is a multi-building research and teaching complex with emphasis on biomedical research. As such, and to ensure successful fulfillment of its mission (research and education), the School Community requires a much higher level of support service delivery than usually experienced in a typical academic environment. Problems that would be mere annoyances in some facilities have the potential of destroying thousands of dollars and months or years of often-irreplaceable work.
