The successful candidate will participate actively in maintaining, enhancing and expanding the current PMR IT infrastructure which includes technical support, problem solving and implementation of Pitt IT and departmental standards.

The candidate will be responsible for helping in defining tasks required to keep systems operational. This position will perform tasks such as hardware selection and assembly, operating system and software installations, configurations, deployment, maintenance, database management, and end user support.

The candidate should be familiar with and able to provide support on multiple OS platforms, including Windows, Mac, and Linux. Familiarity with Microsoft’s Active Directory, Centrify, and cloud services are crucial.

The candidate should be prepared to work as part of a dynamic team and ready to solve problems creatively. Curiosity and willingness to explore new topics is encouraged.

The candidate will regularly interface with coworkers from different disciplines, including bioengineering, mechanic and medicine and must be able to communicate efficiently and document his/her actions in a detailed way. Candidates, when required, will travel to multiple locations within the Pittsburgh area to provide support.

The candidate will interface with both University of Pittsburgh and UPMC IT support personnel. Candidates will be required to become familiar with and operate within institution-wide policies and procedures.

The candidate will report to PM&R’s Information Technology Director.


Job Summary

Diagnose and resolves basic computing issues. Configures end user devices.


Essential Functions

Consults with users in areas assigned to understand, diagnose, and resolve basic computing issues, including device hardware and software problems.

Refers more complex issues to appropriate Pitt IT areas including subject matter experts and consultants more familiar with the underlying issue and resolution

Makes recommendations to users on appropriate computing device/peripheral and software solutions consistent with their needs and University standards.

Configures end user devices and ensures that they are properly set up to access resources available to and needed by the user.

Gathers information appropriate to providing support within one or more University departments depending upon work assignment to assist users in accessing and using their department’s resources as needed.

Applies working knowledge of University applications, systems, and services to assist users in accessing needed resources and recommending University central solutions to avoid duplication of software and services and reduce costs.

Uses case management databases and systems to accurately track status of resolving user issues; accurately documents activity performed, actions taken to resolve, and resolution of user problems.


Physical Effort

Will require moving between buildings on campus. May require standing for long periods of time. May require stretching or crouching to access certain areas of computer equipment. May be required to move computer equipment.
