Job Description
Nature of Work:
The Superintendent oversees the production department during their assigned shift. Responsibilities include coordinating all activities related to planning, directing, and overseeing the production process. The role involves analyzing personnel and capital resources to meet production goals, reduce costs, and ensure products meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
Examples of Work Performed:
Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Direct and coordinate activities of employees assembling seats.
Analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records to determine production requirements and evaluate current outputs.
Coordinate operations and activities within or between departments with senior management.
Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet goals.
Inspect materials, products, or equipment for defects or malfunctions.
Demonstrate equipment operations and safety procedures to new employees or assign them to experienced workers for training.
Monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure operators conform to production standards.
Resolve worker problems and complaints with management or subordinates.
Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies for workers.
Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solutions and solve problems.
Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
Develop specific production goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and meet customer requirements.
Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
Develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring efficient use of resources to meet production targets.
Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory, staffing, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
Resolve production or processing problems with technical or administrative staff.
Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products to ensure finished products meet quality standards.
Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing reports to detect production problems.
Monitor the production run to ensure it stays on schedule and address any issues that arise.
Devise ways to make the production process more efficient.
Recommend training programs or reorganization techniques for the manufacturing process.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Understanding of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Familiarity with machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of various functions within an automotive plant, such as maintenance, quality, production control, safety, operations, and materials.
Understanding of strategies like product lifecycle management (PLM), just-in-time, and self-directed teams for effective implementation.
