The Role
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
The candidate for this position will provide indirect design support to COMNAVAIRLANT, NAVAIR, SPAWAR and other directorates including development of ship changes and feasibility studies. Candidate should possess the following skills that demonstrate proficiency in applications and abilities such as: MS Office Suite and technical writing. The candidate will learn CAD based drafting, TeamCenter NX (or equal), 3D Visualization, and gain a general knowledge of design characteristics of Naval vessels preferably with CVN78 Aircraft Carriers. The candidate will work with others to provide oversight and management of ongoing FORD Class Hull Planning Yard (HPY) projects, and serve as liaison between functional designers and engineers, perform project management and planning, project team. Assist with one or more project teams engaged in the design, implementation and modification of Hull Planning Yard modernization ship changes that span across functional organizations. Set goals and expectations for accomplishing ship change design and engineering tasks to include Product Model modifications and creation of Ship Installation Drawings. Support development and maintenance of HPY documents, program manuals, process guides, and other configuration management periodicals. Assist with and eventually lead and interface with functional design and engineering peers to develop Ship Change Documents (SCD), implementation of 3D product model changes, and drawing development efforts. Provide HPY technical and program support to modernization sponsors and facilitate resolution of in-service shipboard related issues
