Summary - basic function of the role

Responsible for the shipment of product to customers both internationally and domestically. The Shipping Lead is responsible for the accuracy of shipments and meeting all documented service requirements. This position plans, orders and directs all activities within the Shipping Department.

Shift: Monday - Friday; 7 - 4 pm, Saturdays when production needs exist.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provides daily direction and leadership to the Shipping Department team members; Makes recommendations for manpower needs including involvement in recruitment and selection process.

  • Accountable for training, motivation and leadership within area of responsibility; Develops a teamwork environment; Builds departmental standards for performance; Ensures that all employees in the Shipping Department are properly trained

  • Ensures that materials shipped are verified against pertinent documentation

  • Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures and promotes continual improvement within the department and the company

  • Follows shipping methods for materials using the operations procedures; Resolves emergent issues for expedited deliveries to the customer and/or job site

  • Interfaces with other departments to resolve problems with timely delivery or disposition of order cancellations

  • Identifies roadblocks to processes and procedures and offers suggestions for improvement

  • Complies with ISO and company requirements

  • Promotes a safe work environment and ensures that all employees in the Shipping Department are following safety rules and regulations

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies


  • Knowledge of and experience with all shipping functions, foreign and domestic, including domestic air bills, international commercial invoices and letters of instruction required

  • Knowledge of and experience with packaging materials used to safely transport all product required

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to follow and issue verbal and written instructions and to direct the work of others to meet customer needs

  • Ability to work well under pressure and juggle multiple and changing deadlines in a fast paced environment

  • Great attention to detail

  • Reliability and willingness to work 40+ hours a week to meet deadlines

  • Ability to build strong internal relationships with other departments

  • Ability and willingness to take imitative

  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills

Education and Experience

Education Requirements:


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 2+ years Shipping/Warehousing experience

  • Strong knowledge of WMS system (Oracle)

Physical Demands

Employee will lift 50 pounds often. Employee will have to be able to walk to a variety of primary work locations. Employee will need to be able to stand for long periods of time. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.

Work Environment

Employee will be in a production, dock and warehouse environment where they may work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to vibration. Employee will be exposed to elevated levels of noise on the plant floor.
