Job Title: Senior IT Systems Engineer


Position Overview:

Smiley Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to the success of our IT operations, focusing on the design, implementation, management, and support of key complex systems across a hybrid IT environment. The ideal candidate will excel in designing and managing both on-premises and cloud technologies, ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of Smiley and clients' infrastructure.



What you would be responsible for:

  • Entra ID/Azure AD implementation and administration of hybrid identity solutions and integration between on-premises and cloud environments
  • Lead projects to implement hybrid-joined devices and Active Directory environments, and environments transitioning from hybrid setups to fully cloud-joined environments.
  • Implementing and managing devices and configurations through Microsoft Intune and on premises Group Policy creation, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Supporting conditional access policies in Entra ID/Azure AD, and working with authentication protocols like OAuth, SAML, and OpenID.
  • Implement solutions to manage devices across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Windows). MDM solutions (e.g., Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Intune, or VMware Workspace ONE).
  • Lead projects for MFA integrations and migrations for enterprise environments, along with day to day support within MFA solutions like Duo and Microsoft MFA
  • Managing DNS in both on-premises and cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, Cloudflare or Google Cloud).
  • Design, implement and support cloud-based printing platforms such as Microsoft Universal Print or similar solutions.
  • Engineering & administration of virtual machine networking, storage, and optimization within VMware suite (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter).
  • Full management of hardware lifecycles, including firmware updates, RAID configurations, and performance tuning, specifically HPE and Dell hardware and storage arrays.
  • Administration of patch management tools like WSUS, SCCM, ConnectWise or third-party RMM platforms.
  • Administration of enterprise backup platforms like Barracuda, Veeam, and Unitrends, which include supporting and executing disaster recovery plans.
  • Supporting security & regulatory frameworks like GLBA, NIST, CIS, FFIEC, and PCI to ensure compliance.
  • Project Management planning and executing large-scale IT projects. Providing clear communication / documentation and using tools like Microsoft Project or Jira.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction, trust, and long-term partnerships.
  • Managing multiple priorities effectively in an agile, fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Our primary technology stack is Microsoft-based, with our platform built on .Net Core and deployed across both Azure and on-premises environments. Daily, you can expect to work with a broad range of technologies and tools, including:

Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure AD Connect, Intune, Access Control, MS SSO, Office 365/MS365, and Active Directory, VMware, Azure Virtual Machines, Windows Server (2012-2025 versions), and enterprise storage solutions from HPE and Dell. Barracuda Web Filter, Barracuda Backup, MS Authenticator, and Duo MFA. PowerShell scripting, ConnectWise Automate, and Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools.

Interview 1 - this will be completed via video call with a select group from our IT Operations team, focused mainly around cultural fit and technical experience.

Interview 2 - this will be onsite, giving you the opportunity to review the working environment and even meet some potential colleagues. There will be a small technical scenario to navigate, showcasing a realistic ticket that you are likely to receive.
