Senior Analyst - Energy & Minerals Management Group

The Energy & Minerals Management Group ( EMM Group) consists of 15 professionals, including certified professional landmen, oil and gas attorneys, and petroleum engineers with over 120 years of collective experience in the oil and gas industry. The team manages over 20,000 oil, gas and mineral interests held in trusts or estates where Northern Trust has been named trustee or executor. The team is structured similar to a non-operating production company, including division order analysts and operational staff.

Services that the EMM Group provides to clients include:


  • Conducting annual performance reviews and investment oversight

  • Negotiating leases, farmout agreements, gas purchase contracts and related proposals

  • Proactively mitigating the risks of drilling and production activities

  • Evaluating the costs and benefits of investment proposals for capital projects

  • Monitoring working interest expenses and payment of joint interest bills

  • Performing technical evaluations of drilling and workover proposals

  • Conducting title research and identification of assets held in trust and agency accounts

  • Collecting revenue and tracking monthly production income

  • Reviewing and paying ad valorem taxes

Job Description Summary:

Exhibits proficiency in supporting the activities of the Specialty Asset group to which they are assigned. Responsible for ensuring the correct steps are followed with regard to policies, procedures and daily business activities which may include payable/receivable processing, asset set up, removal and annual reviews and compliance-related processes. Support Asset Managers and Sr. Asset Managers with various assignments. Demonstrates an understanding of business system as well as strong organizational skills with knowledge of how business systems can be used to track deadlines. Assists partners and clients with questions regarding business systems and management of assets. Resolves problems and seeks to improve processes. Performs tasks and duties according to established procedures. Requires advanced skills and expertise in a variety of work processes or activities. Works autonomously within established procedures and practices.

Major Duties:


  • Assists asset managers in the collection of information necessary for the completion of Annual Reviews communicating as necessary with partners and outside third parties

  • Working with asset managers to set up new accounts, new assets and new wells

  • Working with asset managers to remove assets, wells and close accounts as needed

  • Identify and set up well and Payor information and assist in processing revenue checks

  • Identity account and asset information on various oil/gas related revenue checks including shut-in payments and delay rental payments

  • Communicate with oil and gas companies regarding ownership interests, change of ownership, improper deductions, etc.

  • Working with asset mangers on escheated funds

  • Reviewing JIB Statements and assist in processing same

  • Assist in organizing 1099s received by account

  • Reviewing division orders and confirming account ownership interest

  • Track due dates, deadlines and expirations and work with asset managers to insure timely completion of tasks

  • Assists with system development, testing and training as needed

  • Performs compliance functions as directed by division management

  • Completes other administrative functions as needed or requested

  • Assists with the resolution of audit and regulatory issues as required within agreed timeframes

  • Identifies, assesses and escalates compliance issues/concerns to supervisor

  • Delivers a work product that requires minimal revisions

  • Able to facilitate discussions, make recommendations and reach decisions

  • Gathers and analyzes data to identify and solve complex problems that arise with little or no precedent

Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of specific area of practice, usually acquired through formal education or work experience.

  • Thorough understanding of compliance policies and procedures in order to ensure the completeness and adequacy of Annual Investment Reviews and the proper management of assets.

  • Analytical and communication skills required to analyze and summarize information and effectively communicate with partners and third parties.

  • Strong organizational skills required to coordinate compliance activities.

  • Requires advanced or specialized skills and expertise in a range of processes, procedures and systems

Experience:

  • A College or University degree or 3-5 years of proven work experience is preferred
