Job Description:

Summary



Identify, develop, and coordinate areas for educational and professional development of current staff and implement appropriate learning experiences. Coordinate special projects related to education, training, staff development and promotion of both clinical and non-clinical services within Spaulding Rehabilitation (SR). Work with therapy leadership regarding clinical orientation and training programs for all new therapy staff.



Key Responsibilities



• Orientation, training, and competency programs for new therapy staff and annual competencies are coordinated and delivered within established timeframes and in accordance with department guidelines.


• Coordinate with the Director of Rehab Education and Training and inter-professional team to evaluate, refine, enhance, and implement new employee general and clinical orientation while providing follow-up and re-education as necessary.


• Collaborate with Director of Rehab Education and Training and other SR Leadership Team to determine, implement, and promote evidenced-based practice, innovation, and research to support organizational strategic goals.


• Manage education and training requirements for regulatory and accrediting entities (Joint Commission, CARF, Magnet, and DPH).


• Clinical consultation provided to staff to support education and training.


• Treatment interventions and evaluations provided per PT, OT, or SLP job description as needed.


• Assess educational needs in collaboration with Department of Rehab Education and Training with annual needs assessment conducted with key stakeholders.


• Develop and facilitate educational programs in collaboration with Department of Rehab Education and Training to meet identified staff educational and training needs and organizational business needs.


• Collaborate with Department of Rehab Education and Training to develop professional continuing education credit programs.


• Mandatory and recommended education, in-services, and competency testing are scheduled and administered annually.


• Tracking systems are developed, implemented, and maintained for orientation, training, and competency programs to ensure attendance and compliance.


• Budget process input is provided to secure adequate resources for education, training and professional development needs.


• Establish connections for remote education programs.


• Community education is provided to educate patients, visitors, and other health care professionals to the role of inpatient therapy, different levels of care (IRF, LTAC, SNF, OP, Home Care) and how they relate to specific programs.


• Collaborate with Director of Rehab Education and Training with the development, standardization, centralization, and support of the allied health student program.


• Support and uphold the SR Organizational Values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.


• Support, uphold, and encourage inter-professional collaborative practice maximizing safe, high-quality, accessible, equitable, person/client centered care and enhanced population health outcomes as outlined by the Inter-professional Education Collaborative.


• Additional department, organization, or enterprise activities are completed as requested and per established objectives.



Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience




Education/Degree



Required


• Graduate of accredited program of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology.


• BLS certification


Preferred


• Master's or Doctoral degree in related field


EE Experience



Required


• Experience in developing and providing educational programs.



Licensure



Required


• Current therapy license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the Board of Allied Health Professions (either PT, OT, or SLP).



Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)


Required


• Effective verbal, written and electronic communications skills


• Working knowledge and involvement in nursing administration.


• Experience providing educational programs.


• Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.


• Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.


• Highly developed inter-professional collaboration skills including values, ethics, knowledge of own role and other team members, communication skills, and teamwork.


• Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.


• Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.


• High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.


• Attention to detail.
