Staff Engineer - Engine Calibration




Location: SHEBOYGAN, WI



The Staff Engineer - Engine Calibration is a key technical expert and contributor to the Product Development process of generator sets. This engineer will be considered a subject matter expert with strong knowledge of the function and construction of internal combustion engines along with an emphasis on calibration, emissions, and regulatory requirements. They will support and guide the efforts of Project Engineers, Design Analysts, and Lab Technicians in the development of generator sets that include an engine development component to the project. They will also perform advanced development work on engines to develop "shelf technology" for future projects. This will be done independently and with the support of suppliers.



The Staff Engineer - Engine Calibration will:





  • Design assigned engines to meet performance and cost criteria

  • Provide technical and design direction to Engineering Analysts and Engineering Technicians

  • Guide development work of strategic partners around engine calibration, EPA certification, product compliance, engine performance and engine durability

  • Lead emissions compliance testing at 3rd party facilities, produce documentation, conduct reviews, and support Emissions Compliance team for submittal of new products, running changes and new model year submissions of existing product

  • Support work of the Advanced Development team with things like decarbonized fuels, multi-fuel, etc.

  • Coordinate and lead engine builds, genset builds, and test lab instrumentation

  • Run engines to collect required data and perform engine calibration to support engine development requirements

  • Validate designs through testing to meet performance, emissions, reliability, and durability targets

  • Support, maintain and update existing product designs

  • Drive cost reductions and support running changes of existing product

  • Work with Accounting and Procurement functions to track actual project spending and product costs keeping them within prescribed boundaries

  • Approve the selection of all major purchased components (i.e. radiators, fans, engines, turbochargers, charge air coolers, ect.) and support the selection with sound engineering calculations




RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Builds engineering experience through a combination of mentorship, hands-on work, technical analysis, and testing

  • Handles responsibilities and performs projects and tasks for technical assignments of broad scope and complexity under general direction of the Product Development Manager and Platform Leader and the support of other cross-functional team members

  • Assumes a high level of autonomy in decision-making and day-to-day activities

  • Provide technical direction and design intent to Analysts and Technicians

  • Leads projects from concept to market



Skills/Requirements




EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering or Master's of Science - Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in internal combustion engines, components, calibration, and emissions

  • Project management experience is essential

  • Product development experience is essential

The salary range for this position is $98900 - $125600. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
