POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Surgery at USF is seeking an Academic Bariatric/Foregut Surgeon to join the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery.

The successful candidate must be BC/BE General Surgeon, be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Florida and eligible to work in the United States. USF and affiliates partner to provide General Surgery residency program as well as Foregut & Bariatric Surgery fellowship.

This is a full-time 12-month salaried faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor and carries with it attending staff privileges at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and affiliated hospitals. TGH is a level 1 trauma center that serves as a tertiary care facility serving south central and west Florida.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Teaching Duties: Candidate provides clinical and didactic teaching to residents, medical students and staff.
  • Clinical Duties: Specific responsibilities will include: direct patient care across the full continuum of care, serving as an attending physician on the bariatric service, and supervise students and residents assigned to the General Surgery bariatric service
  • Essential Functions of Position:

    • Robotics proficiency. Able to work in complex team environment. Values patient safety and excellent surgical outcomes and high degree of patient satisfaction/ service excellence.
    • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
    • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
    • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
    • May represent the university, college/school, or department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :
MINIMUM:


  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor . Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
  • Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Bariatric Surgery

PREFERRED:


  • Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), issued by the Accreditation Council on Medical Education.
  • A valid medical license in the United States, and board certification/ board elgibile
  • Current Medical licensure issued by FL State Board of Medicine
  • Successful completion of a Bariatric Surgery fellowship.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
