Job Description:

The Financial Aid Assistant works under general supervision; acts as liaison with on-campus departments; assists and counsels applicants and students; performs general clerical duties; performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned.



Daily Operations



• Responsible for managing the Federal Work-Study Program and all job duties associated with the program's operations, Acts as liaison with on-campus departments concerning college work study students;
communicates with department heads regarding matters of student employment, e.g., the availability of jobs, performance, assignments, etc.; types requests for and issues student paychecks; issues and collects time cards from student workers; types and obtains signatures on student employees' contracts and other documents.
• The first point of contact for all visitors; Assists applicants and students; explains work study programs to applicants; assists students with application and processing problems; assists with preparation and
distribution of financial aid packages; may review student records and other data in order to make recommendations to the Director of students eligible and deserving of financial aid awards; completes enrollment certification forms on veterans receiving educational benefits.
• Performs general clerical duties: maintains student files by performing the following duties: labels and files student folders; reviews student file folders checking for missing data, documentation, job descriptions,
department assignments, over award, etc. and copies materials for student folders; keeps an update of student folders; compiles materials for student award; keeps an update of student financial aid master list, outlining amount of income, type of aid received, classification, source of other income, etc.
• Assists with the constructing of policies and procedures for the Financial Aid Office.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.



Required Skills



• Knowledge of modem office practices, procedures and equipment.
• Knowledge of gathering, assembling and explaining data.
• Ability to talk with applicants and explain available programs in a clear and concise manner.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written, analytical research and problem-solving skills



Required Education an Experience



• Bachelor's degree or two or more years of experience working in a Financial Aid Office
