Job Summary/Basic Function: Wheaton College seeks a part-time Media Services Technician to join a highly-functional team that provides exceptional service to the campus community. Reporting to the Director of Media Services, the Media Services Technician operates, maintains, and trains student employees to use audiovisual equipment and sound systems, primarily for evening/weekend events on campus. They perform preventative maintenance in technology-enhanced classrooms and collaboration spaces. They support the use of instructional and presentation technologies across campus. They manage student employees assisting in this work. This position requires significant interaction with community members, including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and visiting guests.
The work schedule is 20 hours per week during the academic year (Sept-May). The technician will work Tue/Wed/Thu from 5pm-10pm and Sat from 7:30am-12:30pm, and several additional weekend events through the year, including but not limited to Welcome to Wheaton Day, Board of Trustees weekends, and Commencement/Reunion.
Specific responsibilities:
Ensure the safe and proper operation of all equipment. Perform preventive maintenance for equipment. Close and secure classrooms in the evening so they are operational for academic classes the following morning.
Provide event support – professional audiovisual support, training, and troubleshooting (e.g. public address systems, projection, recording, Zoom) – for on-campus and remote events sponsored by all constituents of the college.
Provide faculty teaching in classrooms with professional audiovisual support, training, and troubleshooting (e.g. projection, recording, Zoom). Use various databases/tools to provide reports as needed on room usage, technical needs, problem calls, and other requests.
Supervise student assistants. Provide training on use and maintenance of classroom technology equipment and sound systems.
Provide high quality, rapid technical support for all college classrooms and spaces equipped with installed or delivered multimedia technology.
Maintain documentation and training for classrooms and media equipped event spaces as well as technology and tools to support online teaching.
Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED
1-3 years experience performing similar work
Technical Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated experience with and competence in troubleshooting problems with audiovisual equipment
Experience with computer projection and presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides)
Experience with audio, including public address systems, soundboards, speakers, stage monitors, and wireless microphones
Familiarity with databases for record keeping and report writing (e.g. FileMaker Pro, 25Live or similar)
General skills and abilities

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $24/hr.
Physical Demands: The physical demands that are required to perform the job duties often or continuously include: hearing, listening, talking, standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs/ladders, kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead, pulling, pushing , and lifting – up to 50 pounds. Physical demands that are required to perform the job duties seldom include: sitting, crouching, and crawling. This position is subject to outdoor environment, noise, and atmospheric conditions.
