Basic Function:


The Operations Manager oversees all aspects of the operation with direct supervision of all warehouse and transportation activities as well as being responsible for the operating performance of the branch. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and timely movement of products. This involves supervising the picking, packing, and shipping of orders and is responsible for the training and development of all warehouse and delivery employees. This position assures adequate planning, staffing, equipment needs, procedural compliance, and inventory accuracy.


The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Branch Operations involving transportation, warehousing, and related services to achieve customer service, satisfaction, and cost objectives.  The Operations Manager is also responsible for ensuring the Branch operates with safety as the utmost priority for both employees and customers.


Responsibilities



  • Create a culture of safety, productivity, and process efficiency where employees are developed and know how their work is evaluated and fits into the big picture.

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs all distribution-related activities.

  • Directs and monitors compliance with company policy and procedures.

  • Participates with senior management in developing strategies to meet short- and long-term company objectives.

  • Establishes procedures and motivates employees to ensure the highest standard of quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Implements and maintains cost-effective measures to ensure warehousing efficiencies.

  • Develops and maintains effective inventory control measures.

  • Supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development of subordinates.

  • Day-to-day management of the operations at the Branch.

  • Work directly with vendors, buyers, planners, replenishment, transportation, distribution, and compliance areas.

  • Actively contribute to the Operations Leadership team by taking ownership of key projects or activities and mobilizing cross-functional team members to deliver the goals.

  • Ensure all legal requirements are met relating to H.R. policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all options are considered and the most cost-effective solution is taken to solve everyday business operational issues.

  • Work with your colleagues to deliver the Branch team KPIs. Understand the KPIs relating to Operations and have action plans in place to deliver them.

  • Lead and implement all key projects relating to the operations within the Branch.

  • Provide cost-effective ideas/plans to help improve the operation and deliver the wider operation network objectives.

  • Hire, train, coach, develop & lead the associates in the Branch to deliver superior results.

  • All job accountabilities and goals are subject to change with the needs of the business.

  • Manage the Will Call business to ensure customers are provided a high level of service:





      • Order processing

      • Walk-in customers

      • Technical Support primarily for product application queries




Requirements


The successful candidate will have:



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years of warehouse distribution experience including 3 years of management experience in a service/distribution center, preferably B2B.

  • A detailed orientation with a desire to follow a proven process.

  • Proven experience managing a labor and transaction-intensive warehouse process.

  • A strong ability to gain trust and create alignment across the organization.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and change management skills plus strong financial acumen.

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with executives and senior management.


Educational Requirements:


Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent field of study.  MBA preferred.
