The Senior Systems Engineer will drive adoption and integration of Systems Engineering methodologies in Boulder campus to improve project outcomes including first time quality, customer satisfaction and predictability in time to market and cost. This position applies technical expertise towards systems solutions of complex technical problems and provides solutions that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed with some direction and latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. The role will collaborate with cross-function team members to drive consistent application of Systems Engineering practices across the organization with a goal of driving fast product development.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • System Requirement:

  • Lead the definition and development of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture.

  • Responsible for completing system engineering activities to translate concepts into products that delight and serve our patients and clinical customers.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Defining and integrating sub-systems, features and technologies.

  • Documentation:

  • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation throughout the development process, including design specifications, test protocols, and regulatory submissions.

  • Integration and Testing:

  • Plan and conduct system integration activities.

  • Conducting tests and validation procedures to ensure the devices function correctly and safely. This includes writing test plans, executing tests, and documenting results.

  • Identify and retire risks related to projects to improve quality, predictability and performance.

  • Assist in preparation and conduction of product concept user evaluations.

  • Collaboration:

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to integrate various components and ensure seamless functionality.

  • Interfacing with all project team members including engineering (mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and test), quality, regulatory, marketing, technical communications, end users, technical support, production, and suppliers.

  • Manufacturing Test Development and manufacture Team Interfacing:

  • Design and develop manufacturing test plans and procedures.

  • Create test fixtures and automated test scripts for manufacturing.

  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure smooth transition from design to production.

  • Provide technical support during manufacturing ramp-up.

  • Address and resolve manufacturing issues related to system design.

  • Ensure test processes are efficient and meet quality standards.

  • Troubleshooting:

  • Identifying and resolving technical issues that arise during the development and testing phases.

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assisting in ensuring that all designs and processes comply with relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, such as FDA regulations and ISO standards.

  • Lead process to ensure NPD teams comply with latest versions of applicable standards throughout the product development life cycle.

  • Risk Management:

  • Participating in risk assessment and mitigation activities to ensure the safety and efficacy of the medical devices.

  • Other Tasks:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.


Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or another technical discipline with 4+ years of engineering experience

OR

  • An advanced degree in engineering, science or another technical discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience

Nice to Have


  • 4+ years of medical device systems engineering experience

  • Local to CO and willing to go on-site

  • Background creating and managing requirements.

  • Possess an understanding of functional and customer requirements and be capable of effectively teaching others how to develop, write and manage requirements.

  • Strong analytical/statistical problem-solving tools.

  • Experience planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams.

  • Ability to support multiple projects and balance priorities.

  • An understanding of and proficiency in Change Management.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to apply new technology in areas of responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of global Quality System requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly interpret an extensive variety of technical information and find resolution to an issue quickly.

  • Has working knowledge of SOP's, guidance documents and applies a risk-based approach to all decisions.

  • New product development experience

  • Demonstrated experience in project planning and management.

  • Managing or leading cross functional change efforts

  • Broad business knowledge and ability to link customer needs with business processes.

  • Interpersonal Savvy

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$104,800.00 - $157,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
