Why We Need You:

PEMCO has a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a Senior Data & AI Architect to join our community. In this role, you will be responsible for providing architectural leadership in the transformation of PEMCO’s data systems and integrating advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies within our data ecosystem. The role will have a focus on designing and implementing enterprise-wide scalable cloud-based data architectures, as well as modernizing existing on-premise data warehouse systems. The role is responsible for enhancing PEMCO’s data capabilities, ensuring they align with organizational goals, while embedding AI/ML solutions to drive business insights.

What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Stay up to date with trends in cloud computing, data architecture, and AI/ML technologies, continuously evaluating new tools such as serverless architectures, microservices, and AI-driven analytics platforms; implement best practices in data modeling, data architecture design, security, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Partner with key business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into actionable data architecture and modeling solutions; present architectural roadmaps and strategies to executive leadership, advocating for investments in data modernization initiatives.

  • Lead data modernization efforts through the migration of on-premise data systems to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), designing cloud-native data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, serverless computing) for scalability, flexibility, and high performance, building real-time and batch data processing systems, optimizing for performance and cost-efficiency, and through assessing and modernizing existing on-premise data warehouses, improving storage, management, and data processing capabilities. 

  • Lead data modeling efforts, ensuring alignment with business requirements and data governance best practices.

  • Implement data governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance, both on-premise and in the cloud; collaborate with security teams to ensure data protection and adherence to compliance standards.

  • Embed AI/ML models (including generative AI) into the data ecosystem to drive insights, automation, and enhanced decision-making.

  • Design, build, and optimize data models for both cloud and on-premise systems, ensuring robust and scalable structures that meet the business’s analytical and operational needs.

  • Collaborate with data scientists and AI teams to design architectures that facilitate AI/ML workflows, model training, and real-time inference; leverage advanced AI/ML tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and AWS PageMaker to optimize data-driven solutions.

What You'll Bring:


  • B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience (Information Technology or related technical program)

  • Extensive experience in on-premise data warehouse architecture, optimization, and modernization is required

  • 10+ years of experience in data modeling and design, with a focus on scalable, flexible data product solutions for complex data environments including migrating and transforming on-premise data systems to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is required

  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, etc.) are preferred


  • Job specific: Skilled proficiency in MS Project or Smartsheet is required


  • Job specific: Strong knowledge of cloud-based security protocols, compliance standards, and governance frameworks is required


  • Job specific: Proficiency with AI/ML frameworks and embedding AI solutions into data ecosystems. Familiarity with AI/ML tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS SageMaker, Azure ML is required


  • Job specific: Proficiency in designing data models and architectures for both cloud and on-premises environments is required


  • Job specific: Expertise in cloud-native data platforms (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, GCP BigQuery) and modern data warehousing is required


  • Compliance: Knowledge and understanding of relevant laws, rules, and regulations is required

  • Job specific: Strong understanding of APIs, microservices architecture, and containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) is required


  • Job specific: Skilled in generative AI models like GPT, DALL·E, etc. is required

Compensation:

The pay range for this role is shown below. Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual’s qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.


  • Greater Seattle area target pay range: $178,339-$217,969.  The full pay range is $148,615-$247,692.

  • Outside greater Seattle area target pay range: $157,388-$192,363.  The full pay range is $131,157-$218,594.

Greater Seattle Area is defined as working within approximately 100 miles of Seattle.

Outside Greater Seattle is defined as working approximately 100 miles or more from Seattle.

Benefits:

Regular part-time PEMCO employees working at least 24 hours per week and regular full-time PEMCO employees are eligible to elect coverage under medical, dental, and vision plans for themselves and their eligible family members with generous employer premium cost shares. In addition, as a benefits-eligible employee, you are:


  • covered by employer-paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance policies as well as long- and short-term disability benefit coverages.

  • eligible to participate in PEMCO’s 401(k) plan which includes a generous employer match (2 for 1 on the first 6% employee pre-tax and/or Roth deferral, up to federal maximums). 

PEMCO provides the following paid leave programs for benefits-eligible employees in their first year of PEMCO employment:


  • Vacation accrues at a rate of 10 days for new hires, and increases based on a schedule to a maximum annual accrual of 25 days based on tenure

  • Granted four (4) personal days immediately upon hire

  • Paid holidays for the eight (8) holidays observed by PEMCO throughout the calendar year.

  • Granted up to ten (10) days of sick leave immediately upon hire (pro-rated based on hire date and full-time/part-time status), which is approximately 28 hours more per year than the Washington state-required accrual

  • In addition, PEMCO provides paid time off for bereavement, jury duty and employee volunteering in the community.
