As a Lowboy Driver you will play a pivotal role in our construction projects, ensuring the safe transport of equipment between locations. This hourly-rated skilled craft position involves various responsibilities, ranging from equipment loading and securing to adhering to safety regulations. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as the work may shift from one task to another as required.

Key Duties:

  • CDL License and Safe Operation:
    • Maintain a valid Class "A" CDL license and driving record within MVR policy guidelines.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of construction and paving equipment.
  • Equipment Handling: Safely load and unload construction and paving equipment, ensuring secure transport.
  • Shift Flexibility: Be available for day or night shifts as needed to meet project requirements.
  • Safety Regulations: Possess comprehensive knowledge of all USDOT and FMCSA safety regulations, maintaining strict compliance.
  • Vehicle Maintenance:
    • Perform daily safety checks, including fluid levels, and inspect for leaks and vehicle damage before operation.
    • Promptly report any vehicle repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Trailer Combinations: Operate a truck equipped with various trailer combinations.
  • Documentation: Maintain complete pre and post-trip DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) records.
  • Weight Calculation: Calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combinations to stay within DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines.
  • Cargo Securement: Adhere to FMCSA cargo securement rules and regulations.
  • Medical Certificate: Maintain a current medical examiner's certificate (FMCSR part 391.41).
  • Versatility: Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts as required.
  • Other Vehicles: Safely operate a water tanker, flatbed, and/or other commercial vehicles as necessary within driver license guidelines and with the required endorsements.
Education and Experience:
  • This position typically requires previous experience as a Truck Driver - Lowboy. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
  • Have experience with airbrakes and standard transmission.
  • Two years of industry-related experience in hauling heavy equipment is required for this position.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods and performing tasks such as stooping, bending, and crouching.
  • Frequent work with hands extended overhead, often in conjunction with the operation of load binding devices.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and carry at least 30 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity to secure cargo using chains and load binding devices on equipment.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities on the construction site.
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Work is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • The work environment may expose employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust common on construction sites.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve close proximity to high-traffic areas, both within and outside construction zones.
  • The work may involve substances commonly found on construction sites, such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.

The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
