Job Description/Purpose

IEEE is a prominent provider of technical information (including standards, scholarly content, e-books, training, and the like) to leading institutions in the academic, corporate and government markets around the world.

The overall purpose of this position is to support the Product Management team in the ideation, design, and management of key IEEE digital products. This position will support product managers who manage existing products, and act as the voice of the customer, with regards to managing and developing products at the IEEE. The intern will work on projects that include supporting the creation of new products, licensing IEEE content, and identifying and acquiring third-party content.  The intern will also support the Product Management Team in managing relationships with companies who index and abstract our content, as well as with companies and individuals who license our content or request permission for specialized use of our content.

The position will work with other IEEE departments including Product Marketing, Global Sales, Platform Management, Publishing Operations and others.

Key Responsibilities


  • Support the PM team in conducting and documenting customer research and interviews.


    • Customer satisfaction research

    • Market research (primary and secondary)

    • Win-loss analyses



  • Research, compile and document industry trends, new markets for existing products, competitive analysis, as well as data sources and publication lists in support of business decisions.

    • Help create an Open Access “Book of Knowledge”

    • Develop a repository of best practices and shared knowledge to be used by Product Management and other groups

    • Compile and help analyze citation information to support sales and content acquisition

    • Create reports to support Open Access, sales, and other business decisions

    • Support competitive research for IEEE products

    • Support the evaluation of new markets for existing IEEE products

    • Create usage and sales reports for existing IEEE products and IEEE’s strategic partners

    • Complete analysis for existing IEEE products, as well as new product concepts

    • Content curation for new and existing IEEE products

    • Journal evaluation and indexing assistance

    • Respond to permission requests and create documentation for ongoing guidance and reference.

    • Analyze and document IEEE publications currently being indexed by our partners.

    • Support planning efforts for IEEE meetings and events related to Product Management

    • Assist with preparing presentations and documents for IEEE stakeholders, partners, customers and volunteers

    • Assistance with operational tasks such as tracking content delivery, invoicing, customer service support, etc.



Qualifications


  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in a field such as electrical engineering (or related engineering fields), library science, publishing, communications, or marketing.

  • Past internship experience in a product management, publishing, or research setting desirable.

  • Proficiency with typical business software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; experience with reporting tools such as Tableau desirable.

  • Previous knowledge or desire to learn about the product management profession and the Scholarly Publishing industry in a not-for-profit setting.
