Job Role Summary
The Mechanic Specialist/Outreach is responsible for areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, painting, water treatment, and general building maintenance. This position performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep/maintenance/general operation required to ensure the proper function of all aspects of Community Health Centers, Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and Ambulance buildings are maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence
Performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep/maintenance/general operation required to ensure the proper function of all aspects of Community Health Centers, Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and Ambulance buildings are maintained in a safe and operable condition
Receives maintenance repair requests
Fulfills requests in a timely manner within a two-day turn-around period based on prioritization
Responsible for areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, painting, water treatment, and general building maintenance
Determines the need for maintenance and repair including costs, equipment needed, identify levels necessary
Performs extensive driving/travel in order to fulfill requests at the various work sites, to ensure correct procedures are used and that manufacturers' recommendations are followed
Job Requirements
Completion of high school or equivalent (GED), plus vocational training in a variety of building maintenance disciplines, commercial and industrial (water treatment/chemical safety hazards) is helpful or minimum of 3 years of progressive general or specialized work experience may be acceptable in lieu of educational requirements
On the job training provided for each specific skill area
Valid Indiana Driver's License is required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive general knowledge/experience plus expertise in a variety of building maintenance disciplines: electrical, heating, refrigeration, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, finishing, water treatment plant and powerhouse
Possess capability of operating various equipment, machinery tools and knowledge of materials to be used
Ability to establish and maintain financial, work order, contract and other record systems sufficient to control the use of maintenance funds
Ability to estimate future material and funds requirements and evaluate use of resources
Knowledge of related codes and standards
Thorough knowledge of safe work practices as related to OSHA
Knowledge of chemicals typical to commercial and industrial systems
Ability to read, interpret and apply hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Ability to effectively work under limited supervision and establish daily work priorities and patterns
