The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Craniofacial Center is uniquely positioned to provide unmatched expertise from our team of caring experts of medical and dental specialties. In addition to our interdisciplinary team care, we also offer prenatal services and non-team care for patients with non-cleft palate diagnoses.
This interpreter position will provide comprehensive interpretive and Spanish language translation services for patients and research subjects with limited English proficiency and Latino patients seeking treatment at the UNC School of Dentistry, as mandated by Federal and state guidelines. This position will provide Spanish language interpretive services during clinical operations and apply to all administrative functions, such as scheduling and care coordination sessions. Additionally, this position provides written translation support for forms, letter, and patient education materials. Occasionally provides interpretive services for UNC School of Dentistry faculty and students when working with patients in the community setting.
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of interpreting/translating experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Fluency in both spoken and written forms of Spanish and English.
Working knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs.
Ability to communicate effectively with patient populations from varying socioeconomic backgrounds and age groups. Ability to initiate and maintain collaborative working relations with other employees.
Practical knowledge of principles of interpreting in a healthcare or clinical research setting.
Any of the following completed trainings or certifications are preferred:
Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)
Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI)
National Council on Interpreting in Health Care training
CITI Ethics for Working with Human Subjects Training
Bridging the Gap Interpreter Training
