Industrial Electrician at Amsted Rail

Job Description:

Electrician candidates must possess industrial experience and be able to demonstrate successful electrical troubleshooting experience, including instrumentation and AC/DC motor controls.

Key Functions:
• Position requires total commitment to safety and ensuring others are working in a safe manner as well.
• Maintain, repair, troubleshoot and install industrial manufacturing equipment and systems.
• Maintain, repair, troubleshoot and install medium voltage electrical distribution systems - 24 vac/vdc to 480 ac volt systems
• Repair and rebuild electrical replacement parts for industrial manufacturing equipment and systems
• Install and troubleshoot electronic safety circuits.
• Ability to troubleshoot using blueprints, schematics, computers and appropriate test equipment.

Tools and Equipment: Drill press, power saw, chain fall, burning equipment, portable drill and grinder, safety devices, miscellaneous electrical testing equipment and hand tools, pipe benders, soldering equipment, etc.

Materials: AC and DC equipment, such as electric furnace, cranes, manipulator, motors, generators, controls, switches, circuit breakers, transformer, control panels, lighting circuits, wire, tape, insulation, repair parts, control circuits, conduit, fittings, etc.

Responsibilities:


  • Receives instructions, wiring diagrams, specifications, etc., covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done. Answers radio signal for electrical maintenance.

  • Inspects all electrical equipment in the plant, checking motor bearings, lubrication, commutation, excessive vibration, obvious signs of wear or need for adjustment, etc. When faulty operation is observed or pointed out by operating crews, diagnose trouble using testing equipment or own judgment based on general knowledge of electrical principles.

  • Determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.

  • Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage, or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.

  • Interpret and analyze drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and trace electrical circuits, to determine material and replacement needs, and to select a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems.

  • Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles and lubricates electrical equipment taking all safety precautions.

  • Adjusts equipment to obtain proper operating characteristics.

  • Makes either temporary or permanent repairs as required to equipment, such as main motor drives, generators, control panels, relays, interlocking control systems, electronic devices and circuit breakers.

  • Makes mechanical and electrical repairs on cranes. Makes mechanical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of electrical equipment.

  • Operates small machine tools, such as drill press, power saw, etc.

  • Check air compressor for proper operation. May start, stop or adjust compressor.

  • Maintains clean and orderly working area.

  • Installs, splices or replaces sections of wire incidental to repair or temporary installation.

  • May as required install conduit, fittings, switches, controls, fixtures, and connect and adjust electrical equipment for new installation or replacement of facilities, etc.

  • Maintains performance and maintenance records on electronic equipment.

Work Environment

  • May be required to work at heights and/or in confined spaces.

  • May work alone with minimal supervision or with other maintenance crafts

  • Work in various areas of the plant, which dependent on the area, environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

  • Possess a valid driver's license

  • Skills assessment and;

  • Ability to work shift work and rotating schedules; including daily and weekend overtime and call-outs for repairs and break down situations to limit downtime, preventative maintenance tasks, and root cause analysis

  • 4 years of Manufacturing and/or heavy industrial experience working in the skilled trade

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical certifications, i.e. MSHA certifications, WV Electrician License, formal education or training (list certifications on job application/resume).

  • Experience with PLC's, AC & DC drives and troubleshooting is preferred

  • Experience with Mechanical operations (hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of computers, i.e. Windows, MS Office, etc.

  • General knowledge of test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and tools of the electrical trade.

  • General knowledge of electrical conduit bending and assembly.

  • General knowledge of single phase and 3 phase electrical systems.

  • General knowledge of AC/DC Electrical systems

  • General knowledge of Power distribution systems

  • General knowledge Electronic sensors
