The Anesthetist performs a complete preanesthetic assessment and appropriate care according to patient diagnosis and physician orders. This position formulates the plan of care around the patient's response to the anesthetic. The Anesthetist provides education and corrective action as needed for the patient.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs a thorough and complete preanesthetic assessment according to standard operating procedure.
Provides anesthesia care which is appropriate to the patient diagnosis, age and physician orders, following the CRNA Scope of Practice.
Obtains informed consent for the planned anesthetic intervention from the patient or legal guardian and documents this on the patient record.
Provides education regarding anesthesia care and evaluates the patient's response.
Formulates, implements and adjusts the anesthesia plan of care to adapt to the patient's response to the anesthetic, initiating corrective actions as required.
Completes all documentation according to standard operating procedure.
Identifies high risk situations and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
