Upward Bound instructors are responsible for providing challenging academic instruction to project participants during the on-campus six-week summer session. **Please Note** This is a temporary, part-time position, M-W June 6-July 13, 2022. The number of hours worked per week is dependent on the number of courses taught per instructor.
College/Department Overview:
Upward Bound Central Prep is a federally-funded TRIO program that provides assistance to students so that they may complete high school and succeed in college.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Prepare a syllabus, curriculum, activities/assignments, and assessments for subject area.
Prepare for and meet classes as assigned and maintain a safe learning environment.
Demonstrate concern for academic growth of all students by employing best practice strategies.
Evaluate and document student progress, and communicate successes and concerns to Upward Bound permanent staff.
Request and assist in maintaining department equipment, supplies, and materials.
Participate in scheduled meetings with permanent staff and any relevant Upward Bound activities.
Assume other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Follow policies and procedures as stated in the Upward Bound handbook.
Submit documentation as requested by the Upward Bound program in a timely fashion.
Encourage and support Upward Bound activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies.
Experience Required:
Completion of a bachelors degree in Education or subject area
At least one (1) year of teaching experience at the high school level
Knowledge of best practices in teaching
Ability to develop and deliver engaging lesson plans to high school students preparing for college
Or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience Preferred:
Oklahoma teaching certification for age level and subject area
Experience working with low-income and first-generation students in an educational setting
Personal experience overcoming academic, cultural, financial, or other obstacles similar to those faced by low-income or first-generation students participating in the Upward Bound programs
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work cooperatively with other professional staff is necessary.
