Location: Iowa City, Iowa
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Radiation Therapist to apply ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the radiation oncologist. Provide radiation therapy protection monitoring in all clinical areas. Provide some functional teaching and supervision of students. Duties to include:
Perform complex radiation therapy procedures and operate equipment.
Perform radiation therapy technologist responsibilities as required.
Provide dosimetrist and radiation physicist with treatment parameter calculations
and computerized dosimetry.
Present instruction to radiation therapy technology students and assist in evaluation.
Manufacture individualized immobilization devices and shielding forms.
Maintain liaison with Radiation Therapy residents and staff physicians regarding scheduling and other technological matters.
Assist with ordering supplies and maintaining quality control in accordance with hospital, departmental and area standards.
Assist with preventive maintenance of equipment to minimize technical malfunction.
Make appropriate adjustments to equipment and patients in the event of an equipment failure.
Maintain patient care and other records necessary.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Schedule: Hours may vary between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

Required Qualifications
Eligible for certification by American Registry of Radiological Technologists in radiation therapy procedures, or Bachelors' Degree in Radiation Therapy or equivalent is required.
Permit to practice in the State of Iowa is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelors' Degree in Radiation Sciences is highly desired.
Recent experience with current advanced radiation therapy technology highly desired.
Recent experience with specialized radiation therapy procedures highly desired.
Recent experience with specialized treatment imaging positioning and localization techniques highly desired.
Recent experience with magnetic resonance imaging procedures is highly desired.
Experience with gamma radiation therapy technology is highly desired.
Recent experience with computed tomography simulation is highly desired.
Experience with an electronic radiation therapy medical record system highly desired.
