What you'll do:
Operate lathes, mills, drills, shaper, boring machines, presses, grinders, furnaces, welders, torches, do setups, disassemble, repair and re-assemble can manufacturing equipment. Diagnose operating troubles and correct, repair, modify, redesign manufacturing parts, improvise parts, tools and procedures, inspect, instruct and direct operations and procedures, do heat treating, maintain inventory, order parts and materials.
Must be able to properly setup and operate lathes, mills, grinders, shapers, drill presses, hones, welding equipment, presses, and other machine and hand tools common to the machinist trade, and improvise tooling, attachments, and methods to adapt available machines for desired results.
Machine parts to exacting measurements, lay out and check work, select proper materials, tooling, operation sequences and procedures.
Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, rebuild, overhaul, modify, replace, test, fit and reassemble all can manufacturing machinery or sub-assemblies, involving castings, shafts, bearings, bushings, gears, worms, sprockets, chains, cams, levers, and related parts and materials standard to the can making industry.
Maintain working area and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Maintain records or repairs to machinery, machine parts, and die parts, including sketches and drawings, information about materials, measurements, tests and experiments, methods used and hours of labor, order parts and materials through proper channels.
Must be able to perform general maintenance work on auxiliary equipment, cans and end conveyors, palletizers and depalletizers, and related can handling equipment.
Service and repair small machines, build drops, elevators, drives, and cable conveyors.
Using metal and/or wood and by welding, nailing or bolting, construct and install can drops, brackets, piping, and related items common to the trade.
Maintain records of installations, repairs, repair parts and hours of labor; order replacement parts and materials.
The employee may subject to noisy conditions in excess of 80 dB, continuous vibration and various atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, dust, and gases.
We need you to have:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalency
The experience requirements of this job title require the applicant possess considerable skill in diagnosing troubles, determining necessary repairs, and restoring defective equipment to service.
The ability to be able to kneel, stoop, crawl, squat, and stand for extended period of time, while running machinery. This could last up to 12 hours, however, not continuous.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide, use decimals and fractions, and the ability to compute volumes, areas, gear ratios, etc. as related to the position.
The ability to read and comprehend measuring instruments, blueprints and drawings, handbooks, specifications, equipment manuals, parts lists, and other written material, and be able to make sketches and/or drawings as associated with the trade.
Must be able to safely operate and maintain machinery while exposed to a variety of physical conditions. Must possess adequate strength to bend metal rod for can drops.
Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination to accomplish adjustments and repairs to parts and/or machinery, possess adequate feeling in the hands to make adjustments that are hidden from view.
