Stark Neurosciences Research Institute's mission is to bring together the scientific community in a dynamic, collaborative organization that advances discovery of neuroscience-related disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies, as well as disseminates and applies this knowledge to prevent, treat and cure disease. Stark Neurosciences Research Institute's research is not only reflected across departments at IU School of Medicine, but at several universities and institutions.



Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Performs studies investigating the role of neuroimmunology in animal models of Alzheimer's disease.

  • Manages and performs studies under the direction of a supervisor.

  • Performs small animal handling, husbandry, genotyping, surgery, and sample preparation.

  • Performs cellular, molecular, and biochemical experiments including, but not limited to, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, flow cytometry, behavioral analysis.

  • Performs data collection, recording, and analysis such as tabulation/calculation, statistics, and figure preparation.

General Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.

  • Organizes and implements data review and analysis.

  • Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.

  • Conducts data quality assurance practices.

  • Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.

  • Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
