Academic Req: Required - Graduate from accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program
Certifications: Good standing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with the state of Texas Board of Nursing, current BLS certifications (PALS preferred), First aid, CPR, Emergency behavior intervention
Work experience: Required - One (1) year nursing experience, including pediatric nursing experience
Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:
Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team when appropriate.
Complete all nursing duties and provide all health care services relevant to this position in compliance with all regulatory authorities, and program protocols, procedures and supervisory instructions including, but not limited to, active and ongoing nursing assessments, charting, scheduling of appointments, routine observations, isolation observations, wellness checks, immunizations, all required documentation and reporting.
Implement and monitor established health care plans and treatment orders to ensure that all treatment orders directed by physician or APP are implemented as ordered and immediately upon request.
Provide guidance, direction, and leadership to medical staff, and maintain readiness to provide supervision and training to medical staff, medical service specialists and direct care staff when requested by RN Manager.
Effectively communicate, consult, and interact with the Registered Nurse Manager on protocol and procedure issues affecting the quality of health care services on campus and issues of contagious disease control when any child is on campus is ill with contagious disease and communicate effectively with health care providers regarding care for service population and advocate for the needs of the service population.
Maintain documentation of controlled drugs that may be available to include up to date reconciliation of all scheduled drugs used in the facility through facility's protocols and procedures as requested by the RN Manager.
When directed, communicate with pharmacies on ordering prescription medications, check medication deliveries for accuracy and compliance with provider's orders and remediate any discrepancies.
Assist in maintaining adequate over the counter medication supplies for assigned service population facility.
Assist in arranging the transport of residents to health care appointments including; doctor, dentist, therapy, counseling, lab, and other required transporting visits.
When directed, arrange proper disposal of unused and expired medications according to protocols.
Develop, maintain, and audit an accurate Medication Administration Record (MAR) for each child and assist with the medication administration and health of service population as needed or requested by RN Manager.
Provide required facility documentation and reporting in a timely manner to meet Compass Connections, federal and state guidelines within the required timeframes.
Maintain all written and electronic medical health care records.
Participate in the development of health and medical related protocols and procedures for a federal program.
Communicate with service population and staff in a manner that prioritizes confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA, Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements and Compass Connections confidentiality protocol and procedures.
Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions and operations.
Adhere to scheduled hours pertaining to position, remain available for on-call scheduling, and work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed, requested, or deemed appropriate by Registered Nurse Manager.
Know, understand, and apply positive behavior management techniques including verbal redirection, de- escalation, and containment.
Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting and documenting procedures.
Show appreciation and affection toward children in a manner that is compassionate and professional, minimizing cultural misinterpretations.
Assist with training of Compass Connections staff and service population on medical issues and Compass Connections staff best on practices regarding CPR, First Aid, BLS, calling 9-1-1 and controlling contagious disease, quality health care and emergency response preparedness as requested by RN Manager.
Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment and following the direction of the Registered Nurse Manager.
Implement Compass Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
Maintain Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, children, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform nursing duties at designated site(s) in accordance with nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses.
Complete accurate documentation of nursing activities performed in accordance with agency policies and procedures and contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
Collaborate with and apply recommendations of advanced practice provider (APP) and Registered Nurse (RN) Manager regarding best practices and Compass Connections Medical protocols and procedures.
Initiate medical services provided to service population to ensure services meet all state, federal and program requirements and clinic setting remains safe and sanitary at all times.
Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.
Other duties as assigned.
Foster Care Programs - Support, encourage, and recruit foster parents.
Requirements:
Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
Demonstrate the ability to:
Respond sensitively and competently to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers and professionals.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
Provide crisis intervention according to training provided by Compass Connections when needed to maintain a safe environment.

Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures.
Must complete and sign Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification.
Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, titers, or declinations for the following:
MMR
Varicella
HepB
HepA
Tetanus
PPD
Meningococcal (preferred)
Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting of patients, stretching, and bending.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Must be able to maintain professional people skills, including oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.
