The Senior Tax Accountant-Direct Tax is responsible for partnering with 3rd party tax firm to provide all relevant schedules and reports for timely filing federal, state, and local Income taxes. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintenance of fixed asset system used for computation of tax depreciation and amortization. The senior tax accountant will be responsible for supporting tax audits and other tax matters as they arise. Job requires development and maintenance of tax policies in accordance with management vision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as in-house liaison with 3rd party tax team on income tax matters for US, Canada, and Puerto Rico
Manage income tax audits with 3rd party tax partners and special requests from various state's taxing authorities
Maintain and reconcile 3rd party fixed asset system with internal book ledgers
Compile financial schedules relevant for the preparation of income tax returns and provisions (provide ledger details, fixed asset registers etc.)
Compile financial data relevant for the preparation of business licenses and annual report registrations
Recommend changes to systems
Assist management in evaluation and development of tax modeling and scenario planning
Assist in the IRS Form 1099 preparation and filing process
Stay informed on federal and state tax laws and regulations impacting the business
Support strategic tax initiatives at the federal and state level to minimize taxes due
Complete special tax projects
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Self-starter with appropriate initiative to ensure seamless compliance in an area with technical intricacies
Ability to use commercially available tax research programs; write and report results of research
Read, interpret and apply general state and tax rules, regulations, and return instructions
Ability to summarize information in written form in a clear and concise manner
Capability to engage others in the Company when required to address and/or resolve issues
Outstanding communication skills that convey the position of the Company to various external parties in a professional manner
Independent, logical, problem solver with the ability to arrange priorities under minimal direction
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university; Any progress in attaining a Master's Degree is very desirable
5 - 7 years of related accounting or tax experience
Experience with RAM - MRI Fixed Asset software a plus
Intermediate-Advanced in Excel, Word, and Access
CPA designation desired; but not necessary
